Uh, I don't think that fits the criteria for being labeled a deposit.

I wonder why your so concerned with something that has nothing to do with you SuperAntx. Unless ofc you really wanna be GM in a game so you can play king of the castle, but you spend all your money on justin beiber fanware that you cant afford it! Srsly tho, what does it matter to you? lol, is this money comming out of your pocket?
Not to mention, its not like you get some godly powers in game. You pretty much get summon, teleport, the basic ban, boot, mute, oh and a command to turn you into a kitty icon. Big whoop-de-do! Im sure were gonna have ppl lining up to throw out 50 dollars for those awesome commands! It's just a little added insurance to prevent ppl from abusing their powers. Specialy since we've had GM's lose their mind for some reason and want to mess up the entire economy. BTW, I think I heard my little sister say something about a justin beiber concert on MTV, heard its live! You might not wanna miss it! (edit)P.S. He's not lying about the KFC! :P |
I'm just saying a featured zombie shooter which surprisingly doesn't rely on being a Resident Evil fangame to draw in players should probably avoid selling GM. Unless people are actually given back their money it's not actually a deposit, it's just selling GM commands.
When talking about BYOND off-site I'd just like more games I can point towards and say, "play that" is all. This being a featured game it aught to stand as an example for other games to follow. |
We don't rely on being a fan game because people play for other reasons.
People will do things for other reasons. We don't know what the reasons are behind their actions, all we can do is acknowledge their actions. I don't know why people play my game, honestly there's a lot better looking games out there, better developed games, etc. I don't know why my game is a featured game or why it has as many fans as it does. I don't know why people want to administrate my game and basically do my job for free. I don't know why people will pay to do my job. I don't know why people will spend hours, months, or years playing my game. I think a lot of developers can attest to this for their own games. If people really want their GM deposit back, I'll give it to them. |
I will say this once, and only once. I was the only player to ever pay fifty dollars to become an official of Dead and Walking, and only from the fact that I saw a need for one, as well as it being my favorite genre of game. I did not know any of the officials, I barely knew any of the players, besides the ones that I showed the game myself, so I had no other reason to pay such a price except for truely wishing to make the game better than it was. The only reason that I did in fact become an official of Dead and Walking, was that I knew I could handle it, in a way slightly different than how things had been handled up to that point. SuperAntx, I'm not entirely sure where you heard about this "Fifty dollar for GM" hum bug, yet it was simply a unique offer at the time to not only fill a certain gap, yet to test the given Applicant as well.
Now, on the other hand, if you are indeed commenting about me, when you say "King of the Castle", then you must understand, that all administrators of Dead and Walking are equal, and only Rekwan himself stands above that given populace. Given this, we have indeed recieved a certain "unheard of boost" within the Official Populace, and as such, may have obtained the reputation of being the "GM" central, in which any old player could control new players at their whim. This is not so. In fact, though the requirements for being an official are at times bypassed, for the most part, we hold these with absolute tension, and without remorse. It might be possible in the future for one to pay fifty dollars in order to become an official, and if so, it'll be quite some time before such a thing occurs. What bothers me now, is why you've brought this up in the first place? Do you know me in some capacity, or have we ever crossed paths on another game? I have been on Byond for over two years, so I wouldn't discredit that to any extent. If, however, we have never crossed before, than how did you come across this information in the first place? Did you yourself attempt to become an official of Dead and Walking at one point? Do you know someone who did? It seems as though no main player of this game recalls you to any extent, so it would seem that if you had tried to become an official, you were simply a new player trying to get over the regulars. From this, you were probably told that there is a fifty dollar charge, and a requirement of being sixteen years old to join. In fact, there are certain GMs who do not meet either requirement, and yet have been instated nonetheless. As I have said before, only I myself have payed for that, and have since used such "power", to the best of my ability. I apologize that you have such woes for this game, and truely do hope that you in time change them. Have a great day now. |
Thank you for the well thought replies.
I didn't hear about this game from someone, nor was I trying to become a GM. I was browsing the new hub listing and came across this entry. To my amazement, it was a zombie survival game which wasn't established on a copyrighted property. Best of all it seemed to have an active community. Things were looking great until I read the bit about paying $50 to be a GM. I can understand how it's a very good marker of trust, seeing as how if the applicant doesn't play by the rules they lose their money. However, it's dangerously close to outright selling GM, and it still technically is until you either get your money back or just decide to donate it towards the game after the fact. In retrospect my "king of the castle" comment was somewhat arrogant and I apologize, but after being around for so long you gain a unique perspective on things. Back when BYONDimes were still around people were selling GM left and right, it was very a lucrative business. People would rip off source codes just to be "king of the castle" and make their friends GM while selling stat boosts, items, and even GM status to anyone who asked. Nobody bothered making anything else because it wasn't where the players or money was. You can still see the after-effects of this mentality in BYOND's user base even to this day. That is what came to mind when seeing a game requiring a $50 deposit for GM status. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from. |
Zeyzal, that's exactly why there's a $50 deposit fee, for players who come in and want to be GM but have no record with the game.

Well... I enjoy playing this game, for it's quite fun and intricate, but... the community literally just MURDERS the entire thing. They're almost of NO help, only answering a few questions, every now and then. But once you actually try to converse with said "community", they just attempt to shun you out of your entire existence. I already understand that every online game will have "people" as such, and that it is not the entire player-base, obviously, but it's still a major issue. If anything, it'll most likely discourage any new players in the near future. I would just leave, but some idiotic part of myself still wishes to carry on, no matter how aggravating the players may become.

I thank you for your input Ryazel. We will try working on improving our overall community and strengthening the relationship between the Staff and the Players.

It's been brought to my attention that some of your screenshots contain Proelium assets. While it appears that you're no longer using them in the game, the offending screenshots should be removed for your hub:

Just found this game. Looked at the pictures without playing the game. How come...the character icons are stolen from Falacy's games?

If your talking about Paradise city's icon's you are completly wrong. Look closer and you will see they are NOT from his game. It's a 32x32 square so its easy for them to "appear" too look alike. Also Paradise city was started march 19, 2007. D&W has been up, with the same base its always had, since February 18, 2006. How would we have stolen icons of a game not even out at that time? |
