Many of you might have seen or heard of my Megaman game, Megaman Files. It's a decent game which can be fun but also has many many many flaws. I started this game about 2 years ago when I still had little knowledge of coding. You can only imagine the mediocrity of the coding because of this. It is beyond repair. Therefore I have come to the decision of abandoning the project altogether and making a new one. This will dissapoint many people, but it will also give other people a new, and actually decent Megaman game to play.

My skills are far beyond what Megaman Files is right now, so in making this game I am changing many things and adding many things to make the new Megaman Files far more player friendly and overall better and more impressive. One thing I plan to do is change up the style of Megaman I am using. My first plan is to use a smaller style:

either the 8-bit NES version:

or the 16-bit Wily Wars version:

The reason I am using smaller Megaman sprites is because I plan to oversize them to be twice the size they are now. Those sprites are both perfect for that. The reason I do this is to simulate 16x16 movement even though it is still 32x32. By making the icons bigger and making the pixel_step_size 8 it will look like they are traveling a smaller distance in a smaller time. This will obviously play better than the older Megaman Files.
Yet the question remains. Which Megaman should I use? The 16-bit Wily Wars one, or the classic 8-bit one?
Discuss amongst yourselves.

PS

Don't forget to vote in the BYOND Conqueror of the month poll! Poll closes at the end of March.

I believe the 8-Bit was the best for Megaman. The classical version in this case I feel can not be beaten.

That and plus, the 16-bit looks like a pixel art barbie doll.
Ha, interesting point.
I would say go for a 16- bit but try to use the colors better ;), that example misuses the amount of colors.
On a side note I was wondering why make remakes of games that already exist.
Megaman Files does not exist outside of byond. I'm remaking the game which I made into something better. Since it's far too much work to fix what I've done, im starting over.

I don't mean remake as in the same exact game, I mean is the same gamplay, same concept, same goal etc.
No, no. I plan to make an entirely new game basically. The part that is the same is that it's a Megaman fan game.

I mean same to the original Megaman games for the consoles
That would be impossible unless it was a single player game, which it isnt.

Apparently I failed at getting my message across so let's just leave it at that.
Eight bit is awesome.
Well, 8 Bit Is Win, But By My Liking, 16 BIT PL0X
8-bit.
Go with 8-bit!

It'll be much easier art-wise (any original graphics can be much simpler), plus with the advent of Megaman 9 on WiiWare, the 8-bit Blue Bomber is back in style!
It still all has to be multitiled, and creating custom art in 8-bit is actually harder.
How is it harder? Fewer colors, next to no shading...

[Edit:] Let me clarify a bit... I've done black & white icons, so I know the challenges of having a limited pallette... But in many ways it removes a lot of the actual work, when there are fewer colors to place into an icon... I mean, between those two Megaman sprites, which one do you think took more work? Sure, the 8-bit might have required just a touch more creativity to use the limited colors wisely, but I'm sure it was much simpler to create than the 16-bit...
Not true, sorry to disagree, but if we are talking from scratch here then 16-bit would be easier. Perhaps not all 16-bit though. If you were to go to sprites-inc.co.uk and check out their forums then you'd notice something in the section where everyone shows off their custom sprites. There are ALOT more Megaman ZX styled sprites. That style is a 16-bit style(possibly a little more, I know the DS can handle more than that obviously.) But the few that do 8-bit styles don't always do a great job. Like you said you have to be creative. It's easy to first draw out the shape of the body when you have many colors to use in it. The 8-bit megaman body is inhuman compared to the 16-bit megaman bodies(yes the wily wars one is still inhuman, but you get the idea.) Can you imagine the mind it took to draw out the 8-bit Megaman?
8 bit FTW! It's what made Megaman.
no more megaman files=suicide, but, great megaman game=?
It's still technically gonna be Megaman Files, it'll just be even better.
