Since implementing the medal system I have begun work on some medals for Scream of the Stickster Volume II: The Crayon Massacre. I could definitely use more good ideas, so here's a list of what I have in mind so far, some of which I've implemented at least partly. Unless otherwise noted, an enemy refers to a player on another team, a valid target in Stick Tag or Free-For-All, a "free game" player (one with a negative score from attacking players unprovoked), or the Stickster.

None Shall Pass: Kill an enemy by shooting up or down a ladder.

Draw Hard: Kill/stun 3 enemies at once (secondary explosions count).

Master Scavenger: Complete a scavenger hunt in under 5 minutes.

Cleanup Crew: Complete a team scavenger hunt in under 3 minutes. (Awarded to entire team.)

Flag Raider: Contribute 10 points to your team in a CTF match.

Color Guard: Return 3 of your own team's flags to base during a CTF match.

Dot Sniper: Ambush 5 enemies in a row while invisible.

Defender of the Ream: Kill the Stickster once (on average) per minute of play.

Team Captain: Earn MVP on a team of 5+ players.

All-Star: Earn MVP on teams of 5+ players in every type of team game.

The workability of some of these, particularly the All-Star medal, seems a little dubious so I haven't gotten to that yet. Keeping track of whether a team game has had enough players throughout to earn the Team Captain medal also is problematic at this time.

I have, however, implemented some of these already. I'm working on the artwork; so far my plan is to work up a graphic for each one in Inkscape and fit it to some kind of common background. Better ideas for any of the above, including improved names, are heartily welcomed.

This is my early concept art for the Defender of the Ream medal:
Needs more metaphors on some.

Examples: Dipstick: commit suicide
Paper Cut: Kill someone with a knife or chainsaw or w/e (I don't know what weapons are in that game)
Perfect Penmanship: dont miss?
Eraser: Basically what you have for Draw Hard
Page Turner: Get past the first level?
Back to the drawing board: complete the game

:/
A suicide medal seems like a bad idea; also dipstick is an engine reference, not art-related.

Knives and chainsaws are not weapons in the game.

Eraser could be confusing as one of the weapons is an eraser grenade; however I do think Draw Hard is one of the worst names and I'd like to hear further suggestions.

There is no concept of levels to get through in the game, nor completing the game.
i think dipstick was a play on words of the use of the term for idiot and the fact that your characters are sticks, i thought it was clever!
Yeah dipstick means dumb person or idiot.

Example:
Lummox JR is a dipstick for not knowing what that meant. :P
I get the stick part, but a dipstick is definitely part of an engine; I'd be concerned the metaphor would be totally thrown off by that. (I was aware of the colloquial usage as well, inasmuch as I did go to second grade; it just doesn't fit.) Anyway I don't want a medal that's trivial to earn by deliberately failing.
Vanishing Point: Sortof like dot sniper, its an art term though.

Matchstick man/men: Means a con artist, but you could use it for something like a flag thief or something.

Sticky Mess: ???

Stick'em up: Use every weapon there is?

Chopsticks: win a 2v2?

These are kindof lame but I'm bored so what the heck.

RANDOM METAPHOR TIME:

PaperMaker
Wallpaper
Quickdraw
Drawn Together (Theres one for team achievement)
penalized
Authorization
unauthorized
joystick
slapstick
stickershock?

Man I could do this all day..
The medals are actually pretty lame though. It'd be better if they had a little area on your members page, exactly like your favorite games section only much smaller. And you can choose to view all their medals, and they can list their top 10.

That way people can show them off, as of right now I don't know much about the medal system though.
Team Fortress 2's achievements might be a good reference point. Here is the Scout's achievement list (near the bottom). To understand those, this is the Scout's personality and character model.
Putting a box to display your medals earned on your member blog is already something planned for the future. It just didn't make it into the first iteration.

So, you're asking your others to help you come up with ideas, then criticize what they come up with?

Why not just ignore the idea if you don't like them like a grateful person would? Now i'm the one criticizing you for no real reason... heh. Hypocrisy! D:

^_^

Nobody will think like that though. I'm sure anyone reading that will facepalm.

Well yes; in any good brainstorming session you can't just blindly take ideas at face value. You need to play with them to get them to fit sometimes, and be willing to throw out the ones that are no good. It's better to toss the bad ones early and get people thinking on the right track than keep having a slew of bad ideas coming in.

Hence my rejection of a suicide medal, since I think it just encourages bad behavior and it's also trivial to earn instead of being a real achievement.

Yes, I agree with you. But my real concern was that you called him childish, and it seemed a little ungrateful to me.

It's Okay though, he didn't seem bothered by it.. and i'm th only one complaining.

I only suggested it because there are several xbox live games that require you to do odd things like that to get an achievement.

Almost every game for the 360 has an achievement that you can unlock in the first 5 minutes. You can't have every achievement requiring tons of gameplay to get...But I understand how that could go wrong in multiplayer or something. Even so, it's not like there's not a way around that; you could make it a single player only achievement or something.
An achievement dont always have to be positive. Take spore for example... you get a cheater's medal as a mark of shame.

:)

I didn't, actually. Perhaps you're referring to the second grade remark, but that was in response to the silly notion that I didn't actually know what "dipstick" meant.

Okay. Right. ~_^
I had simply assumed it was "dipshit" with "stick" swapped in. I didn't know "dipstick" was an insult all by itself.

As an FYI, what you're describing is not brainstorming. You are describing what might be considered as a planning session, but certainly not brainstorming by any stretch.
