I get my 12x11in Tablet today. Using a mouse is cool and all, but nothing beats a big 'ol tablet. My old tablet didn't work with my new desktop PC due to Vista so I was forced to say goodbye to my old 5x8 friend, but hell, I'm not complaining anymore. Anyway, I'll be posting up a picture when I receive it today and post it up.

So, I'm very happy. But I'm also running out of space on my desk.

Left to right:

My Japanese lamp that I've had for a few years.

My APC power surge protector (it weighs like 25 pounds, no joke) in the back, my house phone, and my G15 keyboard. Honestly, I'm not a gamer anymore(used to be), I use the macros all the way on the left for Photoshop Shortcuts. And by far this keyboard as lasted me the longest and is just great. If I have to buy another, I'll pay more then I paid when it first came out ($99) to get this same model. It also lights up and has a fancy LED with built in media player. Whooo.

My 24 inch wide screen monitor, under the monitor school hw paper, phone, external HDD and knife.

And last but not least, the tablet. And don't let that fool you, I have huge ass hands. I wear a size 15 ring size. You see the new tablet, mouse, pc in the background. And my Nikon D300 that I had to move out of the way so I wouldn't knock it down.

Also for those of you wondering, I got a Vistablet. Not a name-brand Wacom, I have tried Wacom, and they are indeed fancy. But not really for the price. The 24 inch monitor was a few, the D300 was a 2000+ value. But $99 for a I think, 5x5 it is tablet? I don't think so. Vistablet I got for 90 bucks cause I'm a college student, I think it's 130 normally. It's 12x11, and let me say it handles really nice. I can feel the pressure of the pen tip and everything. If you're looking for a cheap tablet, and want it to be a good size, I'd recommend it. My other 5x8 wasn't even a name brand. (had no name at all, actually...which is why I couldn't update the drivers) and worked fine.

I picked up a tablet the other day too. It's just a small Bamboo but it's miles ahead of my last one. Did you get an Wacom? If so, lemme know how that works out.
I love my Wacom I got a few years back, though I'm still not use to drawing on it. I should probably use it more, heh.
You can send your 5x8 in my direction. I wont say no =)

Anyway, happy new tablet experience.
Wacom Tablets are the greatness. Ive gotten to the point where i pixel more quickly, and better while using it than i do without it. Same goes for Texturing and painting in modo.

Good stuff!

Nope. Wacom's are nice, but expensive. I honestly think they're a bit too overpriced. The closest thing I think Wacom has to this size is 12x12 Intuos.3, which is $529 dollars. I paid $90 and yeah, it's not a name brand. But it it's handling very good (better then I actually expected) for the price.

And before I checked online, I almost bought the bamboo at Circuit City because they were 30% off, but luckily for me (I didn't know it at the time) they were sold out.

I CAN draw on it, but I rather not. Pencil and paper then scan. For coloring (which I actually almost never do) I do prefer it though. (mouse+coloring digitally=yuck!)

Aw, I wish you would've told me sooner. I through it away. It had a good 5+ years beaten into it.

Pixelling with a tablet, eh? I can't say I've tried that myself. (all those square-y corners you have to go back and erase are a pain) But it would be quicker for sketching out, especially larger sprites. Texture and painting is a must. It is possible to with a mouse, but it's more controllable and comes out nicer with a tablet. Though there is this artist(<-link) that actually painted stuff with a mouse for the longest and did the most beautiful jobs. He even took part of a Street Fighter fan comic that was sold officially by some company I do believe.

I never use mine. It's too big to really fit comfortably on my desk. I was tempted to create a indentation in my desk it could live in while keeping the surface flat, but it was too much trouble.

Mine was a cheap one from Ebay...

I used it for a few weeks. Put it aside for a few days, went to use it again, and it never worked again. I was most annoyed. But it was only like a 4.5x5 or something like that.
