All of my current games:
- The number of wins is a natural choice for scores and milestones can be reached for awards.
- Losses are another choice, but some people shun having that data recorded. Some even leave game servers before their loss can be announced. In order to keep them sticking around, the number of losses could result in awards that mark the player as being a good sport.
Gears & Peers:
- Record the maximum number of crashes involving the player during a single session.
- Record the maximum number of gears collected by a single bot.
- Record how many gears over the goal were acquired.
GrimTunnel:
- Record the longest streaks of success/failure for guarding/invading.
- Use separate win and loss records for the different classes.
- Record the maximum distance and maximum number of rooms traveled through during a single session.
Occupied Forces:
- Record the longest streaks of success/failure for guarding/invading.
- Use separate win and loss records for the different Fodder.
- Add records for using alternate sets of units.
PathWrath 2:
- Record the longest streaks of success/failure for guarding/invading.
- Record the highest tolls earned and paid.
- Add records for using alternate decks of cards.
- Record how many victory points over the goal were acquired.
I have not decided whose scores and awards I'll actually be tracking. I'm tempted to only keep track of subscribers, but it might be better if score lists were seeded better. Maybe I'll let all BYOND Members be scored and then only give awards to subscribers. Either way, I'm thinking of adding scores and awards to Fooldom Come to increase its value and give people more reasons to visit its hub page. Maybe I'll put participation awards there no matter what in order to encourage people to try out the other games using the passport.
With this new award system, BYOND kind of seems more like a library of Arcade games.
Heh, looks like quite a few people are already implementing this stuff in their games.
