I've decided to turn my BYOND Member page into something actually useful: A guild.
This guild is for games that take the unbeaten path. Games that try new ideas done few times or never before. Games that try to be different, as to discover a new kind of gameplay experience that could change gaming forever.
This is BYOND Experimental Gaming. Welcome to the lab.
Submit any and all games that try out new concepts in one way or another. Doesn't have to be a new concept for all of gaming, just a new concept for BYOND. It can be a fan-game, but only if it's very revolutionary when compared to the original content and other fan-games of the same material.
Join, and you can submit games. You can also submit posts for review, which are likely to be posted to the site. The top members will be given Game and Post Submission Auto-approve if they stay active and helpful.

Sounds interesting is the page was a little cleaner.

So a guild that's dedicated to making games BYOND frequenters haven't seen yet?
Cool. |

Things that could potentially be bad for a game instead of making it more interesting, but are still tried anyway for the sake of discovering new kinds of gameplay. |
As in, new ideas for games in general, not things that are new to BYOND, correct?
Room escape games, for example, have been done to death in other casual communities, but there's never been one for BYOND that I'm aware of. However, that doesn't mean that making a room escape game would be an experiment, since its still a common genre, just not with BYOND. Therefore a room escape games would not qualify for this guild. |
I should mention though that if you're really going to make your site into a guild, you should ditch all the personal information that detracts from the purpose of your guild. I'm pretty sure all of your "My Games" stuff doesn't fit into the guild's niche, or the guilds you've joined, or the people you know, or things like that...

Sure thing. I'm going to submit my game, Snow Fortress, because it was a game with a lot of experimental gameplay concepts.
It's really different from any action game on BYOND (or any action game anywhere) right now. A lot of my future projects are pretty experimental as well, so expect to see them pop up in this guild. |

Alright. I reluctantly uploaded executables for the game, because I don't think it's quite ready for others to host it yet. It's definitely playable though.

I like this idea, Mechana. I really do but a few things bother me a little.
1. Your game being on the list. I have played it numerous times(And I love it, I really do because it's more stable) but we've seen that concept over and over and I don't really see anything that fits this category. 2. Perhaps request someone to make you a new Style Sheet for your page? Something that more suits it maybe? Just a thought. 3. Finish up the forums for the guild? A good gaming guild should have an interesting forums I think. Perhaps also enforce moderators for the forums that share the same view? Hopefully I didn't press any buttons with suggesting your game or whatever, and hopefully I helped you in some way? Good luck on this guild! |

Very nice, I have the feeling that it'd be very exciting to play with lots of people. Altogether, it's accepted into the guild. |

As for the CSS, I've been thinking about it, but I really do love the current CSS. The only thing I don't like about it is that it renders the forums all but unusable, which is something that relates to #3. I'd love if someone could make a similar CSS that doesn't make the forums freak out. As for my game: The entire game itself isn't revolutionary, but I constantly experiment with tons of entirely new gameplay concepts all the time, which makes it applicable. |

I love your CSS. :o Thanks, I made it myself after looking at some CSS Guild ones to see which color codes and such changed what. I have no previous CSS experience, sadly. :( |
I'll hopefully have something submit worthy sometime in the near to mid future.
By the way, the yellow with white writing, I hate it... |
I think the yellow with partial transparency is neat. My personal tastes would be to use the yellow with some moderation and then try to find another color or background for core content.
Reading white text is always challenging but I don't find the yellow background to make it worse. You might also consider applying a fixed background image for the stars. That would be neat i think. Add background-attachment: fixed;to the body or where ever this star image is applied. |
I've found fixed background images actually make the page scroll really slowly on Firefox. As it is presently, the scrolling speed only decreases if you scroll really fast (dragging the scroll bar directly to the bottom, for example).
I'm just not a fan of yellow in general. And there are occasion where the white text will blend in with the star background and make it just that slight big harder to read. Personally I'd go with something like a green background if possible. White text looks much better on a dark green background. |
