Ive done the research, Im aware that you morons voted for Reagan in droves in 1984. However I dont care about electoral colleges I care about the popular vote. Just because Obama didnt have an opponent who basically dropped out of the race because he was so bad such as in the Reagan election doesnt mean his election wasnt by a significant margin and it was a landslide victory as most of the significant battleground states went for Obama.
|
You are not listening: there was no significant margin, never mind the biggest margin in history. You can stop now.
|
Heres other MAJOR NEWS SOURCES calling the election a landslide.
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/2008-11/05/ content_7176780.htm http://www.hararlive.com/hlive/ index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=293&Itemid=184 http://www.usforacle.com/ obama_s_landslide_victory_reflects_a_changed_america And look at the electoral map, http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/ That isnt a landslide? Obama beat the SHIT out of the republicans for good reasons. |
no no wait
Obama/Biden 365 McCain/Palin 173 Thats a fucking landslide victory last time I checked, when you need 270 to win. Yeah so go shove your face back up your ass you little troglodyte. |
Yes, ChinaDaily, where I get all my US News. For the last time: Obama won by an 8% margin in the popular vote. Eight Percent. He won only 365 out of 538 electoral votes, not 370, which is -not a landslide-. Let me rephrase: He won by only a 36% margin even in the electoral vote (which you don't care about, as said earlier), which also is not a landslide. I'm not going to any further than this, because you are just fucking thickheaded.

When the electoral colleges determine the president, winning 365 which is well over 270 of the necessary electoral votes is huge. Especially in the states. With the horrible system of division based on fear set up there, it was a miracle to win by such a large amount. The swing states all went blue on election day.
|
Open up your fucking eyes and read: 365 - 270 = 95. 95/538 = 16.2%. That means he only won by 16.2% more than he needed. Again, not a landslide. How many ways do we need to put it for you? What you may think of as a miracle does not constitute a landslide.
|
Obama's victory was a solid win. He didn't have enough electoral votes for it to be considered a landslide, and those are what elect Presidents in the US. There's been several elections where a president has won the popular vote, but lost the election. The most recent would be the 2000 election.
|
Think logically for a second. Is winning by way more than anybody thought he would win by a landslide? When people only even consider the swing states to be up for grabs during elections because of how entrenched your politics are, dont you think winning almost all of them is a landslide? Even winning 67.84% of the electoral colleges and having the most votes in history is very telling that it was, for all intensive purposes, a landslide victory.
Semantics aside, after the first few hours of the polls closing we knew Obama won, long before most of the polling even came in. Compared to the drawn out Bush elections, this was a landslide. This is a comment on a blog that I made, and yet you challenge me on the definition and use of the word landslide. Well take it up with all the newspapers who called it that. Dont just try and win an argument over semantics actually win an argument about the freaking blog point. |

Notice the responses to this question were all "Four large states John McCain once seemed well-positioned to win — Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and Florida — have in recent weeks shifted toward Obama. If Obama were to win those four states — a scenario that would represent a remarkable turn of events — he would likely surpass 350 electoral votes. I think the idea is that he needs to win by at least 20–30 points or so for a landslide. Something that would be obvious enough not to have to count hanging chads in one state alone. You need 270 electoral votes to win." and " For popular vote, according to one commenter on fivethirtyeight.com, he needs 55%+. Which would be ridiculous. And thus the point of calling it a landslide, I suppose. I think a lot of people are saying “landslide” then self defining what it means when they say it. " |
You are just a master at sources here dan, woohoo fluther! Random people who agree with our point, well, there we go, credibility! Let's go with Yahoo Answers for our next debate, mmmkay? Quit trying to recover: you are wrong.
|
your just an opinion, while I backed up my opinion with a whole mess of other opinions. You declaring im wrong when I bring support into the discussion is simply stupid. You chose to pick out one line of my response and nit pick it, now im defending my use of that term and your backing off like a pussy with absolutely no evidence to have a smug feeling of victory in an argument other than you overwhelmingly uninformed and self absorbed opinion.
Your a stereotypical republican. |
Protip: Opinions backed by opinions means bullshit. Cold hard facts with numbers are, well, cold hard facts with numbers. No one's backing off here Dan. You're the one using bullshit sources while I'm citing actual figures here. I wonder who makes more sense... (p.s. I'm a registered democrat, fuckface)
|
Protip: there is no actual definition of a landslide victory supported by numbers or percentages.

I think you're all failing to remember that Masterdan is an absolute retard who stands by what he says, no matter how wrong it is. He's like Bill O'Reilly: Doesn't matter if what you say is wrong; just say it loud and say it long.
|
Both Airjoe and Masterdan find this post ridiculous, so how did they end up fighting over it? 'I think it's retarded!', 'Yeah, well I think it's moronic so go to hell!'.
