So, I've been working on an engine for a D&D based game (with slightly edited rules, just because I can). Up until now I have not had any idea what to do with it, but now I've decided, and want to know what people think.
(First things first, this is a single/small multiplayer game, 1-5 players at max).
The idea is the game will be split into two.
One side will be a storyline, typical good vs evil (though you will chose to be good or evil).
The other will have little in the way of storyline, but will focus majorly on exploration.
Anyway, the setting for the world is one I have always been fond of and wanted to do for a while now.
The world is basically a total s**t hole, humanity is not a major faction or power in the world, actually, most intelligent races are on the verge of being wiped out. Of the 6 intelligent races in the world, there is 2 major settlements in the world, there is a lot of smaller villages, but these couldn't be considered safe at all, and are commonly destroyed.
Why is the world in such a bad state? Simple, because it is an inhospitable place, full of monsters and other nasties.
These monsters can range in size and power from a bunny, to god beasts that dwarf even the largest skyscrapers (though these are very rare).
Humanity is basically struggling to survive in a world where everything wants to make them into dinner.
Anyway, the storyline side of this is based around securing a future for humanity. The good route would lead you to building inpenetratable cities and fortresses that can withstand the attacks of most monsters.
The evil route would lead you to building super powerful weapons that could wipe out even the most powerful monsters with ease, but would also be very harmful to the environment in general (think nuclear bombs).
The exploration side of things would let you roam around a dangerous, largely unexplored world. The world will be rather wonderous and magical in nature, with all kinds of animals, plants and locations that could make a person potentially very rich (or powerful).
In this side of things fighting big and powerful monsters would be one of the major challenges.
This would basically be similar to the Monster Hunter games, but would have a feel that is more like the Toriko manga*, but would play more like a turn based stratergy RPG.
*Toriko is basically Monster Hunter, but it's not boring. Every monster in Monster Hunter is a slightly bigger dragon than the last dragon. Monsters in Toriko are strange and wonderful, they can be crocodiles, gorillas, walruses, wolfs, mammoths and so on.
So, yay or nay? Think it'd make a game worth playing?
