I hate sports and boxing, RPGs are far too abundant already, and any game that can be described as "a [game] game" isn't worth making. That leaves a strategy game, which usually ends up better anyway. Just make sure it as good AI.

May I suggest something along the lines of well, its hard to explain. I came up with the idea about a month ago, but know its beyond my skill, but it sounds fun to me. Basically, two players are agaisnt each other, they want to conquer each others land, they start off with a certain ammount of gold, lets say 20,000. And set units all around there land, (mayby about 25x25 tiles) and then when both are ready, they both click the war button, and there soldiers/mages/necromancers/whatever go at each other and fight, a game based off strategy, and whatever army is left standing wins =D If you decide to do this, please let me know.
