All BYOND Action members are now able to submit posts; including game reviews, articles, and so on.
So if you enjoy a certain Action game, do the author a favor and review it! If the opposite is true, do your fellow guild-members a favor and warn them! :P
To be accepted and posted on BYOND Action, Reviews must be of a decent quality and appear relatively objective. Screenshots are a must! Submissions of other materials, such as articles, should be relevant to BYOND Action in some way and again be of good quality.
I'll write up some clearer guidelines over Thanksgiving break, but here's a general rule of thumb: if you can't turn it into your English teacher with a straight face, you probably don't want it plastered on the front page of BYOND Action--and neither do we, for that matter :P
Would monetary incentive for writing reviews or articles be extra motivation for those of you out there who are writing-inclined? It wouldn't be a huge amount, but it would add up.
I also restructured the forum a little, splitting submissions and feature requests into two seperate sections. I've also added the guidelines and a basic template structure to them. If you have any other suggestions for improving the forum in general, now would be a great time to voice them!
On a seemingly unrelated note, it's cold outside! What do you guys want to do for a Winter event? I'm willing to put up some prizes if you guys can come up with some fun event ideas!
That's all for now. For those of you getting a short break, enjoy it!

I have a an idea for a winter contest. What if you make a basic shooter on BYOND, and we all have to use that as a base, and maybe in like a week after all submissions are over then people will judge them(Though that is kind of like the last one that you had). Just the main difference is that we would have to start with your game source.

Sounds good. Too bad my BYOND membership ran out recently, or else I would be reviewing every game in the guild at the moment.

Just the main difference is that we would have to start with your game source. I personally think that idea is horrible, no offense though. I would whether create my own shooter than to use someone else’s, learn what each thing does within the code, add some snow, and then claim it as my entry. Also, I would like to see a snow related action game that does not have to deal with shooting. Perhaps, we can have a contest where we must create an action platformer set somewhere in the North Pole. Your submission must include Santa, Elves, and some Reindeer. I guess you can make it a shooter if you wish, but it would be interesting to see what other attacking moves users may create. (Perhaps using your mouse pointer as a sword?) Or we could just have a session like the action guild hosted a few years back. We play several games (maybe related to winter if there are any) and each user who wins that round/game gets a certain amount of points. At the end of the day the person with the most points will win a prize. |
I like the idea of another game day; it wouldn't be limited only to developers, and no judging would be involved :P
We'll have to see if we can dig up some winter-themed games. I know Lummox JR held a snowball game contest a little while ago, so perhaps one or two of those. There also used to be a drunk Santa game, although I don't know how we would score it... |
