...there is no doubt that this game is the hardest entry is the series.
I'm a die hard Mega Man fan (I own all of the original NES cartridges), and on my first play through of the initial eight stages I only made it to the boss on the Splash Woman stage. I didn't even make it to the half-way point on any of the other stages!
I don't even want to think about how difficult the Wily stages are going to be. I expected to play through this game in one sitting today, but instead I think I'll have pace it out over the next week and take plenty of "frustration breaks".
It's already apparent to me that this is no Mega Man 2/3 killer, but it's definitely worth the purchase. That said, only old-school gaming fans who aren't afraid of difficulty need apply.
Someone needs to make a video playthrough for those of us without the system. *hint, hint*

I'm torn whether I should buy this on my brother's Wii, or wait till next week to own it on my xbox. Ugh.

It probably comes down to whether or not you care about bumping up on your Gamerscore on the Xbox. The achievements are still there in the Wii version; they just don't count towards anything. I dislike the Xbox 360 controller's stiff D-Pad, which was my deciding factor. The Wiimote turned sideways ftw. Progress update -- I've beat 6 of the robot masters. For anyone else who purchases this game, I would advise you start with Galaxy Man and/or Splash Woman. Both have comparatively easy stages and can be taken down with the Mega Buster. As far as the gameplay itself goes, I don't miss the charged shot, but I do think that taking the slide out of the game was a mistake. The slide added an entirely new layer of strategy, and made the boss battles more fun. Oh well. |

I got to the last boss and gave up for the night. The Wily stages weren't quite as brutal as I was expecting, although there was one particular jump in the second stage that I died on about 10 times.
The bosses on the Wily stages are definitely the best in the series. After a few tries I was able to take on each one of them sans energy tanks. |

It's coming out for PS3 as well(I believe this Thursday), so I will be getting it for PS3, where the D-Pad is great. I like the Wii's D-Pad, but holding the Wiimote sideways doesn't feel great in the hand, and I don't have a classic controller. |
Yeah. I'm actually considering the PS3 version myself. For all the PS3 bashing I do the DS3 controller is actually good. The SIXAXIS on the other hand...

I reaaaaly dislike the PS3 SIXAXIS controller. It just feels so light and cheap compared to the 360 controller.
The D-pad is solid though. I'm glad they didn't fuck with it. |

I didn't like the lightness when I first got it, but now that I'm used to it, I like being able to hold it for hours on end without it weighing me down. I've held the 360 control, and although it's thick, and solid, it seems like it could do a lot of damage. The PS3 control is light, and can't do much damage when thrown, not even to itself. I've banged mine up pretty good, and it has handled it well. OK, enough with the off topic. Hopefully the PS3 version will be good, but we'll have to wait till Thursday(I checked) to know. |
...Is that a montage I hear brewing?
