I do believe point cards are region locked. If I recall I remember reading something about free UK points card, only they don't work on the American marketplace.

You can sometimes get them as promo offers for game purchases or what not. He could be talking about free one month cards for xbox live gold though.

People who pre-ordered GTAIV on the 360 were meant to get special promo point cards with them*. Most of the stores in the chain my friend works for got tons more than they needed. Nobody higher up cared about them so they just fell into the uncollected freebie box.
I got about 4,000 points off them (2,000 off cards, then a month later Microsoft gave me another 500 points for each card with no explanation at all). *At least in this country in this particular chain of stores. I think other stores had the same deal going but I don't really remember. | |
