The idea of giving admin/GM as a 'reward' on BYOND is one that puzzles me;
Why would I want to be punished for helping you by being burdened with additional responsibilities and demands on my time?

Never seen it. I agree, we need more advertising. I don't care if I have to make an advertisement in flash for byond, I'll do what it takes to rise us up from the ashes.

Admin/GM? I haven't heard those words since my noob years!

I think they should run in for credits mentioning. GM/Admin offers are usually rips IMO.
Yeah, but game-wise mostly the term GM is used by rips IMO.

I think it's better to go after a name in the credits IMO. Staff position isn't bad, but a name in the credits is better to me because then people will recognize what you did.

True how about Moderator.

And yes GM/Admin is from my noob days I don't know what you call it now I think it has gotten more professional in some instances.

Yes a name in the credits is perfect.

GM stands for Game Moderator/Master/Manager, and is used in far more than crappy BYOND rips, for example, in games like WoW and other MMOs.

This is all getting off topic, though. If some game wants to reward testers with GM positions (there shouldn't be GMs in the first place, but whatever) then that should be discussed within the game's forums.

I was told GM was Game Maker. I was talking about Byond, not outside games. In Byond I haven't heard any games like Heroes United or NESTalgia, or Teridal even mutter the term GM.

Also I agree, It should be up to the game, though it may not be as fair as they want it, it's how it goes. When you have a job you don't say "Hey boss, wheres the 2k you wanted to give me?" when you make minimum wage.
GM is an old BYOND term for Game Master. A GM is usually someone with administrative commands (boot/ban) in addition to other random commands which can be used to easily break the game and give some players an unfair advantage over others.

GM is a poor reward for investing in a game. Something more appropriate would be a cut of the profits and/or ownership of the game itself.

Possibly even rights to use the concepts or characters, that is if you copyright/trademark or go down that legal road.
None of that sounds like proper rewards for simply testing a game (testing the game should be enough reward!), and being a game tester isn't even on topic here...
Hey it was only a suggestion I wasn't saying you must do it.

Another good option is to give testers a premium item a cape, sword or whatever the game has.

Or even a different coloured font when they chat.

As for $1,000 I don't think it's up to BYOND to hand out cash after all they make the tools.

It's meant to be an incentive. It doesn't have to be $1000, that was an example it can be 100 or 50. In the end money is the biggest incentive for most, I stand by my opinion that it will help bring in more experienced and serious developers.

Ah, touche.

Ok, here's a list of projects I'm currently working on for byond:
My isometric naruto fangame (Not using a base system)
My Gumshoe: Ace Detective game
My original Quest For High Quality game (top-down view)
My side-scrolling Jump Byond Stars (Sequel to Jump Ultimate Stars for DS)

Those are all going on byond and all have 1P, though the only one not multiplayer is my gumshoe ace detective.

I'm a serious developer and I'm in HS, I'm teaching one that could possibly turn into a serious developer (he's almost there), and one person who could possibly go to byond later on.

I taught this guy in 3 lessons that are less than 8 hours total, and he now understands:

Login() and Logout()
Procs
Vars
Verbs
Built-In Vars (such as pixel movement or world vars)
Every supported file type and what it's used for
Basic attacking
Basic AI
Turf, Obj, and Mob handling
map_formats (like ISOMETRIC_MAP and stuff)
Also another idea could be just a simple Awards system, like "BYOND game of the year". There could be several places like 1st 2nd and 3rd. You gotta give the developers something to feel like a bad-ass about. That's why most actors and singers spend their lives working, to receive that Grammy award or that Oscar. How this will be determined, I leave it up to someone else.

The only issue I see with that is ego. It would make ego increase, but then again it is good if you want people to join.

This is really tough for a decision if Tom were to add that.
Err, announcing projects like that really isn't a good idea on BYOND. I believe most people have learned not to count on a game releasing until it actually does, and many believe it's bad for a game to announce it before its at least Close to being released if not already in private beta at least. I know I for one wouldn't count on any of those being released, much less all of them, even if you do mean it and do so. Sometimes people just lose interest, or change their ideas, and so on.

Anyways. I think it would be better for the community to offer contests for smaller amounts of money, contests that would result in people having the incentive to make original games. Just get them started, and they might get really into it. I've seen one or two before, I think, or similar, and they went well.

The award system, like BYOND Game of the Month, and adding additional advertising because of that, would be an awesome way to help in my opinion. I'm not sure of how you would decide it fairly, but people do like striving for achievements. That's why we have medals, unlockables, etc for games. Game designs not much different about that, I don't think.

Good thing I already released 10 beta demos lol.
Ter13 resolved issue (Not Feasible)
