Yes, this is infact the worst word in BYOND, which is supposed to seperate rips from non-rips, but it actually brings them closer. The word is, "Original". It is sooo vaguely used, and misleading now people often think that the game is a rip if it has the word original in it.
Just because there are rips out there, doesn't mean you need to try and showcase your game, by saying its original you think it gives it some automatic award? No, actually its usually the opposite. There are some good reasons that people shouldnt use original, it should just be banned from BYOND because original makes more rips than Goditz did. Now i'm not saying every game that states its original is a rip, but alot are, and the word is unfit most 99.99% of the time.
For one, original can't be applied to Anime, so stop it. Secondly, the word doesn't mean anything besides that you "havn't" ripped anything. Why should we "have" to say our game is original when we make a non-ripped game? And if so why don't the people who make ripped games have to say, "And yes the game is a complete rip, every line of code and icon.". Thirdly, the word attracts more rippers than people looking for "original" games.
I say if you want an "original" game, don't say it is, why do you have to say its original? You dont see Xbox 360 games comming out like Halo 3: Yes its 100% original not stolen from Gears Of War codez. Thats dumb, that ruins the marketing for your game because your placing your gmae next to rips.
Also, people with original in there guilds is even worse! Alot of those games aren't original, and the guild is in desperation. Original isn't a genre, its sad when people think it is. If you just forget about rips, and don't cycle through BYOND Anime's game list, you'll NEVER see them, trust me.
Finally, if you make a game, don't say its original, or non-rip, or made from scratch, say its a GAME, tell people about it and not how different it is from rips, or how original it is.

Since the anime section is SO watered down with rips, people have to say their game is "original" so that you don't judge beforehand. I know I do it all the time. If a hub looks like someone goodled "naruto" and wrote their games name in paint on it, I don't even click join. In the real world gaming industry there isn't as large of a problem with people using the SAME EXACT SOURCE over and over with different, longass, goofy names. I've called our game original a few times, so I'm guilty of it to. I didn't say the game itself was original, I said the features and such were. I still got someone saying I'm wrong, but oh well. That's just how I feel. | |
