Do you think there is intelligent life out there? I believe there is, unless every potential intelligent life form was incredibly unlucky (like flipping a coin 10^1000000 times and never getting heads unlucky).

Kaioken's recent post on the developer forums inspired this.

EDIT: I'm surprised no one picked up on what the key words of this post were. They did get a little out of order though; they were originally intelligent life fails to exist on BYOND =]
There has to be some sort of life forms on other planets...So I'm voting Very Likely...Maybe "Men In Black" was true...Who knows lol.
It's very likely that there is intelligent life out there, but will we ever find it is the question. And if there IS, they would probably be too far out of our reach or too un-intelligent to make actual communication with.

I'll just go with a "Maybe"
Well according to a former NASA Astronaut they are living among us already.

I love the fact that when ever a topic like this appears someone always says we are the unintelligent ones. At least have some sort of dignity. Everyone has the stereotypical mainstream alien in there heads, where they have ships which soar as fast as light. Why can't the aliens be exactly like us?
Because being exactly the same is impossible :P

Besides, we know dumber aliens exists...look at the avians (birds)! They're like aliens on Earth! :P
Well there may be life out there but they could be little plankton or maybe something from spore who knows :D

BYOND doesn't like BBCODE nub :P.

Learn html.

But yes the picture could be correct.

[EDIT]
And to whom ever voted yes got proof?
I have proof. its called Transfomers..

You got a real one do you?

I couldn't confirm it beyond all doubt, obviously - but I do think it is very likely intelligent life is out there. We know there's a chance for intelligent life to develop on a planet, because we're here. We known that most of the requirements for life look fairly common - carbon, not too warm, not too cold, etc. etc.. We know there are trillions upon trillions of stars in the universe. Given all those facts, I'm reasonably sure life has developed on many other worlds, and that some of those worlds have developed intelligent life.

Finally, the universe may well be infinite in size - I believe cosmologists currently think it's finite, but it's not determined - and if it is, the infinite monkey theorem requires that intelligent life be out there somewhere. Indeed, it requires that somewhere out there is an exact copy of our local solar system, where some other Jp is writing the same comment.

Correct. Most feel that the universe is rapidly expanding due to dark energy.

Either way, even if the universe is finite, the chances that intelligent life being out there is so high it would be insane to say it doesn't exist.
Personally, I'm a follower of the Dimensional Theory, in which there is a infinite/near-infinite number of dimensions parallel to ours.

In which there's an incredibly low chance of there NOT being intelligent life out there.

Of course, there's probably some dimension out there where the laws of physics are so skewed that even rocks are sentient. Would those count as extraterrestrial life?

No, no, no, no, no! Dimension refers to axes of movement or time, not to areas beyond our universe. That would simply be a multiverse.

I believe it is one alternate universe for every possible quantum reaction at every point of time.

Just because it's expanding doesn't mean it isn't infinite. ;).

Cosmologists are sneaky like that.

Oh, and dark energy is hypothesised to explain why the expansion appears to be accelerating - the expansion is due to the Big Bang.

How can something that's infinite get bigger? Darn Cosmologists...

appears to be accelerating

Even the great Albert Einstein's hypothesis was that it would be decelerating; his conclusion was the exact opposite though, as dark energy doesn't behave like normal energy - I just find that interesting. Either way, at this rate, our chances of meeting said extraterrestrial life is decreasing because of this. Makes me sad; I always wanted to meet something with 8 legs and a skeleton on the inside (I forget the word for it >_>).
Why, it's extremely likely that there are other life forms on other planets out there somewhere, and even likely that they may be intelligent. However, the chance that they are anywhere close to us in the vast gigantic universe would render us quite damn lucky (or perhaps unlucky) if it occurred. Similarly, it's highly unlikely for someone on Earth to genuinely suddenly spot an alien/UFO in the sky, especially when 'space observers' like NASA and the like didn't see it coming from space beforehand as would happen normally.

So, they're out there, but there's a good chance humanity won't even get to see them before the sun explodes.
i'm an alien
