So, Russia is saying they're at war with Georgia (a country once part of the Soviet Union I believe)... and John Edwards is now admitting to having an affair during his presidential bid. Man, what's up with our world?
I personally think this is a foolish move by Russia, especially since Georgia is one of our allies helping us in Iraq. This was coming though, ever since Russia stopped the oil flow to Georgia tensions were just getting really high. Let's just hope this doesn't spill over into other EU countries that we all know have bad blood with Russia.

Georgia isn't an EU country. It will likely be in the near future, but it isn't at the present.
|
Yea, it's a good thing that Georgia isn't a part of the EU and now they will probably never be a part of NATO... or at least not anytime soon. There are some countries that may support Georgia that are EU members, although I hope that doesn't go so far as a declaration of war.
I did word that incorrectly though, I shouldn't have said 'other'. |
Well South Ossetia IS still technically Georgian territory. I don't see why Russia could possibly find it strategic to back them up against Georgia.
|
They did warn Georgia though that this would probably happen if Georgia ever attacked South Ossetia... it was a huge chance taken by Georgia. Let's just hope they can make it through this war without too much bloodshed, and at the same time keep their independence.
|
The EU wouldn't move without UN approval, they do actually care for what the UN says. The UK doesn't, but isn't interested in Georgia.
|
This war is about the pipeline flowing throw Georgia. Russia doesn't want any competition or threat to its European energy stranglehold.
So it decided to give the South Ossetians citizenship and arm them. It told them to attack, Georgia responds and Russia moves in. If the Europeans don't want to be Russia's bitch for the foreseeable future they'll help Georgia keep control of its pipeline. |
Edwards' affair is no different than McCain's. Everyone worries about the democrat, though.
|
Except for the fact that McCain's affair was completely fabricated by the media.

Abkhazia may begin their military operations soon (tomorrow). May not seem like a big deal, but any escalation of this war I think is bad. The chain reaction effect of "Archduke Franz Ferdinand" should be a reminder to us all of how small things can turn big quick... >.< Russia's refusal today to sign a cease-fire or open up to a diplomatic solution doesn't help either. |
