Okay, here's a lay-in of a problem...
Deadline is Monday of next week.
----
(This problem is from another source; natually, I should not reveal this source until this contest is over ;)
Two men are playing 5 card draw poker. They decide to vary the game a bit:
Man #1: Hey, I've got an idea, let's play 5 card draw where we get to choose our cards.
Man #2: That seems kind of dumb, but alright.
Man #1: Okay, you go first.
Man #2: (picks the AKQJT of spades), okay I have a royal flush.
Man #1: (picks the AKQJT of hearts), so do I. Now do you want to draw any cards?
Man #2: Of course not.
Man #1: And I will also draw no cards. We tied! Okay my turn to go first...
Man #2: This seems kind of like a waste of time. All we can do it tie.
Man #1: Come on, one more time... if you think it's such a waste of time, would you wager $500 on it then?
Man #2: Ummm... fine, okay... (opens his wallet and pulls out $500).
Man #1: Alright, I'll go first...
The men proceed to play the game, and Man #1 wins $500. How did he win the game?

Wouldn't Man #2 catch on when he notices all four aces are gone? If Man #2 wasn't retarded, he'd take all the kings. This question is moot!
|
If Man #2 wasn't retarded, he wouldn't have betted $500 ona game he thought was impossible for him to win. XD
I am starting to have second thouhts about my strategy. I did kind of rush into it- please tell me what is wrong with it Bootyboy. Also pelase clarify the rules of 5 card draw if you dont mind as I am very rusty. =\ |
I believe in most card games, either spades or dealer wins in the case of a tie. I could be wrong though.
|
Argh - my brain.
Ok Bootyboy i'll wager you a byond 1-year membership! I choose... *dramatic pause* four 10's, and a 9 of clubs (I don't reckon the last card matters as I think the best method is to block the other player from getting the highest flush possible. Your turn! =D |
O.O I didn't even get too read the blog post intell it was over this time. Tell me is it torture?
[EDIT] Ohh sorry congratulations Bahamatt. |
(now we know how Bootyboy pays for all these free memberships! - Just kidding - i'm sure you work very hard.)
Cheers for the membership! It is very muched appreciated. Shall give you thanks when I get a members page up. :) |
I wounder though... Why wouldn't the 2nd man just pick 4 queens his first time. The first man could then not get a royal flush and would be left to only hold his 4 aces or take a lower card combination than a Q high Straight flush
|
1st man draws TTTT9,
2nd man draws QQQQJ 1st man discards TTT9, draws Jack high straight flush. 2nd man can't beat it because all of the tens have been used. |
man #2 fell asleep or die or became dumb and pick the wonrd card and dealer wins if a tie
|
1st man picks 4 aces. one of each suit.
2nd man cannot get a royal flush but he CAN take 9, 10, J, Q, K of hearsts to take the lead. the 1st man then discard all 3 aces except the ace of spades, meaning he can automatically choose the 10, J, Q and K of spades... royal flush is then unbeatable as all other aces are discarded?
Am I right this time? XD
