...when you mix sailing, super heroes, the daemonic, and historical fiction?

Well, if the question is posed to me, your answer is 'The Sea of Bliss'. Its a working title for a series of character driven shortstories (or perhaps even a novel) that I recently began writing.

The story takes place on the privately owned schooner 'Bliss'. At present I'm a little dubious as to the specifc decade for the basis of the story. At first I was interested in utelizing the Napoleonic Wars and perhaps, as the story progressed, the War of 1812 as prominent background. One of the characters, however, has many elements of a traditional cowboy. This as well as a number of other minor historical details, may place the era of the story in the middle of the 19th century, or even as recent as the beginning of the 20th century.

Although there will be an element of super hero dynamics involved in the story (largely inspiried by Star Harbor Nights, incorporating that element into the world is going to be my most interesting task. Demons, and witchcraft and whatnot have always been easy for me to make authentic (and will definately play a definitive role), but the 'super' factor will make things interesting for me; probably because it participates in the plot indirectly. The specific trend I'm looking to include from the super hero genre, though, is secrets; thats all I'll say about that for now.

As I progress with the story, I may post portions of it, in addition character sketches.
