
After over a decade of 28.8 kilobits (or less) dial up speed, I finally join the ranks of the broadband users.
Apparently some rich prick is building a huge agricultural factory of some manner about five miles down the road, and my phone provider stuck a DSL repeater switch right outside the building just for him. Lucky for me, that put me -just- outside the service area, and I managed to coerce CenturyTel into giving me service anyways.
It's only 512 asymmetrical broadband, but 64 kilobytes per second is a hell of an improvement over 2.
Oh, and, I chose an Australian server because I wanted to see what my connection would be like between me and a computer at the furthest distance possible from where I'm sitting.
