This guild has been close to dead for about a few weeks now and I want to liven up a little bit. To start, I will try to have a programming challenge ready for you guys every month, just for fun. The winner will appear in this guild's "Wall of Fame" and there can be up to 2 winners per challenge. I will try to make them harder and harder every week. You may send entries to [email protected] (that's also my MSN)

The winners will the programmers who have the most efficient and readable code. There is no size limit.
(I won't have time on weekdays to check over entries.) You may NOT use libraries or demos. (On special challenges, I will allow them.) I can tell if you copy/pasted so don't bother. (It is very easy to tell programming styles apart.)

Now with the introduction set aside, I present you my first challenge:

---------
KPC#1
---------

Make a Minimap that can appear on the screen, browser, a pop-up window, or in some interface control that can adjust to any size specified by the programmer who uses it through arguments.

The Minimap should be able to display the entire world or a certain range.

What you can't do:
-Use libraries/demos.
-Have another programmer program it for you. (I would laugh to death if anyone does this.)

What you can do:
-Learn how minimaps can be displayed from current libraries or think of your own way of displaying them.

*Please let me know if you're going to submit an entry. (Just post a comment/IM me/Email me.)

All submissions due by: Sunday, June 1, 2008. (Just get them in before 12:00 AM of the next day.)

Prize:?
If I really am impressed, I might possibly buy someone a membership or pay in cash (for those who are already members and don't care to renew it right now).
---------

On a side note, if anyone is good with CSS, I would really appreciate help redesigning this guild since the guild looks somewhat like crap compared to the others.
So basically you just want to trick us into programming something for you. Nice try.

Rofl.

Don't be mislead by his name and the crappy css, he probably already knows how to do this. Also if those really were his true intentions don't you think he would have just directly offered up payment or a membership?

And fyi, I've worked with you both. He's better than you. If not skill wise at the least he demonstrates far more professionalism.
he demonstrates far more professionalism.

by leaving games to join others?? lol sorry had to say it, but yeh he is a good programmer in his own right.

=P

This is my perspective only from working with him and Kakashi left your game because it was disorganized. Yet, I still told him to go ahead and go back because the more he programs the better he becomes.

Do you even have any idea how long Flame has been around? He's started more projects in 1 year then Kakashi has in his whole time period on this site.

Both of them have been project hoppers only Kakashi never knew any better and stopped when the complaints arrived. Though Flame is much older and has been exposed to other experience developers, clearly he has known it's frowned upon for a good while now.

I belive that I am not able to make high quality minimap, but there wasn't any libraty or demo of MiniMap system so I made a one(not very good but useful) don't use it instead of your own challange project, just do what Kakashi said and follow challange's rules

Demo:http://www.byond.com/developer/Kisioj/MiniMap

caused my computer to freeze up.

I could make it display slowly then it wouldnt freeze your computer, now it freezes computer for like 2-4 seconds but shows the map quickly
Freezing for 2-4 seconds and showing the map is far from quick.

I don't know a lot of BYOND functions, I used for(var/turf/T in world) line so when the map is bigger then freeze time is longer, ok I'm gonna make it without freeze, just slowly displaying ;P

PS. Fixed, delete old demo's files and redownload to check it out :P it won't feeze your computer even for 1 second now

Working with Kakashi personally on a few projects (One going faster than the others) I can safely say that he is experienced enough to do this on his own.

He has done things most Byond Coders haven't even attempted yet to my knowledge, although I could be wrong. Unless you know someone who went so far as to turn > + ^ key into a North-east movement.

Rarely can you compare programmers who make anime games(the ones you work with) to the ones who dwell on the developer boards. I suggest you let it go where I left off because he could easily counter that.
I swear there used to be a library to do this, using icon operations.

I am greatly amused.
He's good at programming I guess, but the professionalism thing could go either way. It all depends on how you look at it I guess.

P.S.

You neeeeeed new featured stuff at the side :/

It was Shadowdarke's, I'm almost certain. I can't find any library like it, though.
I think there was some sort of mix-up. My game, Repertoire of Aeos: Disfigured History, is listend under your guild. The game has absolutly nothing to do with Naruto oe anime so I am curious as to why it would be on here. o.o?

There is also no way I can send this to you otherwise so sorry if it seems like spam.

Actually, it was Ebonshadow's and it was a BYONDscape exclusive, so you can't download it now anyways.

Just because his name's Kakashi doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy Non-Anime Games.
Kakashi os a great programmer, But right now hes far to busy hes learning java script and C++.
Chase, wrong lol. He's heavily working on Megaman Navi Wars.
