Actually, screenshots! But yeah, the progress in the game I am making is going suprisingly well.

Added working shops now.
As well as random quests.

As you can see, different NPCs will offer different flavours of random quests.
Grogs quest usually involve killing some humanoid monster because they are negatively effecting his business.
Whereas Azrael offers a quest to assassinate a random town folk (this is the generic assassin guild quest).
Other quests might involve killing pests for the junk shop, collecting materials for the armor shop and so on.
There will also be predefined quests, for the assassin guild this might be killing a certain target in a certain way and so on.

An example of what the dungeon in the game might look like. (Old screenshot again)

The Chainmail Bikini! Hot armor if I ever sawed it!
A small selection of spells and Missile Storm highlighted (there is about 50-60 spells in that list, out of 200, the other buttons will also display other types of spells, in this case they are Arcane, Divine and Psionic, an about a total of 400 spells will be added, not including skills and bard songs), which is a horrible spell (I also like to call it massacre spell)

Here is why I like to call it massacre spell. Because it basically turns everything on screen into giblets :[

Unfortunetly crime doesn't pay, and for massacring that church I ended up in court. (Crime doesn't pay)
(Be warned, this game is nowhere near finished and the game might change by the time it is released)
And finally...

MUDCRABS! (Most generic NPCs will spout out random dialog when spoken to, this just happens to be one of those lines)
Anyway. Comments, criticism or suggestions are all welcome!

ASCII... :( The game doesn't really need graphics, though I might add them (optionally) at a later date. But if I do they wont be totally amazing graphics, But yeah, I don't really see why the game even needs fancy pants graphics. |

ASCII fails. Naw. It is graphics that fail, epicly at that. Also, funny thing is that my game has better graphics than 90% of BYOND games... AND IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE GRAPHICS! But whatever, I guess I will take things into consideration. But the graphics I do add (if I do) will be 16x16 and from an overhead view, and they will be no more complex or fanciful than the graphics used in this game http://www.tigsource.com/features/images/ dungeoncrawl-big.jpg That is IF I decide to make use of graphics, but the game I am making focuses on gameplay above all else (and does not need good graphics), and only pansy ass carebears will even care about the graphics, and those are the sort of people I don't want playing the game anyway (they wouldn't possess the intellect of skill to play it anyway). In short, I am making a game for hardcore game players who care about a good game above all else, and not "yo check me game out. 500,000,000 polygons and over 9000 shaders. Bling bling graphix yo!" people. Guess you can't please everyone, but I'd sooner please the sort of people I'd want playing the game anyway. Also, just out of curiosity. Why don't you peple like ASCII graphics, and why do you prefer actual graphics? |
I wish this was a graphical rogue-like, with sprites.
