Out new prime minister, Kevin Rudd, decided that in order to stop under-age kids from consuming alcohol, to raise the current cost of pre-mix drinks by... a lot. I couldn't tell you the exact percentage, because I don't know it.

What I do know is: The cost of a Jim Beam + Cola slab used to be in the $50 - $60 dollar mark (IF THAT), and it's now around the $100 - $120 mark. All because of under-age drinkers.

The idiots decide to go around the towns, if they get caught by police, they try to physically fight them. What a bunch of idiots. When I was seventeen and my friends and I were drinking, we'd do it at someone's house. We didn't wader the streets looking for fights and what not.

I hate kids... they have ruined alcohol for me. I make what, $250.00 per week at my nice minimal wage job? Most of that cash is going towards server payments for my new server. Now the rest, I can't even afford some drinks for the once in three months I actually get to see my friends.

I didn't vote for Rudd in the first place, and I'm not going to vote for him now, not after ruining my alcohol consumption... Rich mummy and daddy can afford this increase in cost, I can't.
The alcohol tax is pathetic and won't change a thing. But you're doing it wrong if you bought premixed drinks to start with. It's much cheaper to buy a bottle of spirits and then some soft drink to mix it with yourself.

Or you could go the even cheaper route and find a home brew shop, buy a still and make your own. That'll set you back $350-$400 initially, but it pays for itself incredibly quickly.
If it worked for us it'll work for you.
Come to Canada, Tibby. It's legal for you to make your own booze here.

You can get drunk, smash your igloo, and ride your moose off into the sunset!
The thought of mixing my own drinks did cross my mind. But if you consider it, the taste is still different.

Different measurements and different cola. And that's what bugs me.

Hell, I think they even raised the price of beer.
Come to Canada anyways, our alcohol is better and cheaper.

and you can put maple syrup on it if you want it.
Alcohol in a county who's leader didn't once hold a world record for drinking? I think not.
Of course it's going to taste different, but after a while you'll find a ratio and cola combination you like just as much, if not more.

It's easily worth the savings.
So you were an underagedrinker?
I was. But I wasn't stupid enough to do crap which caught the governments attention.

My eldest brother, my older brother and myself all did the exact same thing (without realising it until today). When we wanted to drink, we would do so at a friends house. Or at worst, the beach, at night, when no one is about.

If police came, we'd hide the booze and attempt to look sober. Today's youth, they keep the booze in view and try to go fist to fist with police officers.

Perhaps I should refocus my rant to stupid under-age drinkers. But from what I can see lately, the generalisation "under-age drinker" seems to cover the "stupid" part.
I Canada, beer comes in jars.
In Soviet Russia, Alcohol drinks you.
Solution: Don't Drink, its bad for you, I honestly don't see why people do it. I mean if something is going to hurt you why do it?

Cookies are bad for you too.

Tiberath: I think you'll find that's what most people do with underage drinking. This is just another case of a few fuck heads ruining it for everybody.

Miran94: Why tell others what to do with their body, I honestly can't see why people do it. I mean if something is enjoyable to them why do it and try to spoil their fun?

You know what the worst thing about it is? Now it's cheaper to buy the spirits and soft-drink individually as you said. Now the kids are free to make the drinks as stong or as weak as they please.

Guess what's going to happen now. Individual spirits are going to jump up to $100.00 - $200.00 a bottle because Ruddy boy screwed up.

My life, my way. It's only harmful if you're an idiot and drink too much constantly. There's nothing wrong with a drink with friends.

Hell, drinking red wine after the age of 25 is actually healthy for you.
Someone really needs to point out that if you're drunk, underage and causing trouble you probably didn't pay for your alcohol.
Go to Ireland, they're a country founded off of drinking and fighting.

Judan raus.

It's not cheaper now that the the premixed drinks are more expensive, it has always been cheaper.

Which is why you should grab the needed things to make your own before it's illegal to sell them.

It's only been cheaper by a little bit. And when you mix the drinks yourself, it's just not the same. The taste is different.

Also, it's easier to walk down the CBD with premixed cans in your pocket than it is to walk down the CBD with a bottle of spirits, a bottle of softdrink, a glass and a measuring beacon of some kind. <.<
