...how do you stay motivated? I need to figure out a way to keep working on something. I tend to lose all motivation after the second or third rewrite of the story, so any tips on being a bit more self-confident in my creative writing may help too.
Why'd you keep rewriting it?
Keep yourself interested in the story. If you find yourself bored of your own work, it's going to come out poorly; so think to yourself, if I were reading this story, what would make it more enjoyable for me?
I find many writers show there work to a trusted group who can give them suggestions and constructive criticism. The discussion with them seems to help many writers keep going.

Because I become dissatisfied with my own writing, and feel that the current writing sucks and that I can redo it and make it sound much, much better.
Work with someone else. Personally I suck at writing stories and need someone to write them for me. Not saying I want to work with you but if you know someone else is counting on you, it helps you stay motivated. Plus, there's always someone to share your work with who's interested.
BYOND needs *finished* projects made by competent programmers. If your game wasn't finished, what would the anime kids play? More stupid anime games, that's what.

Convert the non-believers!

The only way we're going to fix the community is to draw in more level-headed people. We can only do that if we stop letting the anime guild control everything.
Actually, I mean writing a story, as in a short story or novella, not a story for a game.
Write me a story for my game pl0x. It's going to be the next best game on BYOND! u get gm
If you can write stories you can write stories. It doesn't matter what you're writing them for.
Writing a story for a game differs a bit from writing a short story, though. A story for a game would involve a plot summary, as the actual goings-on are a script. A short story requires narrative detail, as the images aren't laid out for a person. Anyone could come up with a basic story for a game. A narrative is a lot more involved though.
