Example A
Example B

Those are some pretty good examples of "these visual aspects that are shared by all anime".
Two completely different characters drawn by different people, look almost identical.
If you gave them the same hair color/length you couldn't even tell the difference.

Of course I wasn't saying every anime in the world looks like that.
I'm saying anime in general looks like that.

I can name maybe 2 or 3 animes that when you compare them to your run of the mill series, you can see it has it's own unique style.
(Ergo Proxy is one I thought I'd mention. The art is unlike anything I've seen before. Plus it's just plain awesome)

But no, most of it doesn't.

Of course there are a lot of elements that appear in an anime other than what a character looks like.
There is much more in a scene than the appearance of a person's face or body.

Their surroundings, lighting styles, and even how they choose to animate certain scenes can be completely their own.

Their own style of showing the mood, like how a character or settings are drawn wackily to make for a joke, etc (like how in Get Backers, Ginji is drawn very small in certain situations, to show a joke).

I'm not saying I agree with Lummox, to be honest I don't even think he's seen one, though I may be wrong.

I'm just saying, there is a standard on how to draw anime, and you can see that if you go pick out 10 random animes and watch them.
Magic, Keeth's examples are your basic boilerplate for anime, so most of it looks like that; and some looks even worse. The big eyes, the pronounced triangular jaw, the dumb hair, and the extreme androgyny of the face, all play roles there.

But the example you posted is still well within my hate zone. The mouth style is a dead giveaway, and some indefinable qualities about facial proportions are showing up in most of the characters. The nose of the guy on the upper left (and his hair, mouth, and teeth) scream of anime; the guy in the upper right has the classic exaggerated jaw. And the eyes are still way too big.
What about this, this, and this?
1) Eyes
2) Jaw lines (especially on the woman)
3) Eyes and nose

Hahaha, he might pull some of the most stupid(ly funny) faces ever but he has neither large eyes (his eyes are actually quiet accurately sized), an actual nose, no stupid pointy jaw, nor is he androgenous, as for "dumb hair" that is up for debate, but it is either hyper spiky nor does it define the laws of gravity.

Monster is another (fairly recent) one.

I could list a lot more as well. But those are some of my favourites, so I don't have to remind myself about them!
Anime. Anime. Anime. I'm not buying.
Tank Girl rocks! :)
Just a heads-up to the lazy Canadians out there who haven't seen the movie: it's on tonight at 9:30 PM (EDT/PDT) on Teletoon.

This doesn't apply to Cartoon Network, I'm afraid, so you Yanks (or Confederates) will still have to go and rent it.
