Yesterday I made a post about an extremely long, and extremely bright gamma ray burst that now hold the record for the most distant object ever visible with the naked eye. Today, images of the gamma ray burst from the ground have been released. Below is a series of shots taken ten seconds apart and pieced together that show the burst as it happened:



The actual burst was visible for about four minutes.
Neat.
My favorite line from a news article on this was along the lines of, "Telescopic observations have shown that the burst was bright enough to be seen without a telescope."

Ahahaha, that's fucking wonderful. That sounds like it'd be a ridiculous headline from a SimCity game or something.
