The Interview
Q.How did you decide to handle training or leveling up?
A.Killing mobs such as Hollows and others is the main training method. Why? It simply keeps the player active and gives them a chance to get better at playing their character. However, it isn't as simple as it seems, we've thought of a method that gives a unique taste to the slaying, not revealing what that is of course.
Next to that there are missions, boss fights and of course ways to train certain other stats by usage which will only develop your character more and more. I can't be too specific about this all.
Q.What do you think is the most attractive feature of your game to veteran players of byond games?
A.The little moments of joy. Everyone has had them in their BYOND gaming period. Example: Gekisen gave me a lot of memories, training with my buds in GH etc. Another example: DBO seeing the first LSSJ on there will always stick around in my memory.
Now that is what we have tried to do as well. We have made these moments in-game for any player that WILL stick around and always bring a smile on their face when recalling these moments.
(Masterdan:Hey cool Gekisen is my game! :D)
Q.Is your game easy for people who have never played byond before? If so what steps have you taken in making the game user friendly?
A.I believe so, a guide on how to connect to a BYOND game is already made by BYOND its self so connecting should be no problem. Once connected they simply create their character and start their role in the world of BB. At the start they'll be told where to go. For any general info such as how to train/what races are out there they can talk to 2 NPCs in-game that will provide information.
Q.You mentioned before that the game will be largely based on doing missions from the show, this is something that nobody on byond has really done before. How does it work and what quests will be available for launch?
A.Well yeah, training sure speeds up by doing missions. Instead of pointlessly slaying monsters we've added in NPCs that will reward you for it giving a nice boost to speed up your training and something else which will play a huge role in BB. Next to that there are more sorts of missions such as escort/retrieval. We try to keep the missions as close to the show as possible. An example: a Shinigami giving you the mission to help and escort lost souls to him to be soul burial-ed.
Q.How is gameplay handled? What exactly about the combat system makes for an enjoyable experience?
A.Remember the old days where diagonal usage of movement would give an advantage to the user? Old school BYOND fighting. We believe in skill. Now since we want players to win by skill and not cheap methods we have decided to not add in any homing skills or fully immobilizing skills. These are 2 things that people used to whine about in every game but not in BB. We are still adding new features to the gameplay. We hope to include in our first release: broken or lashed body parts, that effect movement and coordination.
Q.Whats currently the most ingenuitive feature of your game that you believe is new to byond?
A.The way we made these "moments" of achieving things just like in Bleach. Just imagine: One moment you could be dying speaking to yourself and before you know it you wake up in this weird dimension with another person it... and from there on you'll have to find out what exactly happens or what the purpose of this RP-like scene is once the game is launched.
But next to that is one thing that will influence your character a lot, a choice. This choice has been asked in the teaser as well. Maybe the words "The time to choose is now.." ring a bell. We didn't just add that for show - it will play a big deal in the game, exactly how can't be revealed yet.
Q.When do you think we will see this game reach BYONDAnime?
A.Stuff has been happening in our lives. Divorces, problems at school/family we all have the worser times in life. Sadly enough BB had to be a victim of it. But to answer you, we hope sometime in February or even March. Just give us time. We've all heard this before but: patience is a virtue.
