It appears I am b& from posting in the animu guild forum(minus the three crappy ones - Roleplaying, Something and Something)

Anywho, that is why this question is going here -

I question the cannonality of the DBZ Broly movies. Many fans and other places believe that the Broly Movies are not cannonical, and have no relevance to the story.

But, in the DBGT era, when the Gates of HFIL are opened, Broly flies out(along with Cell, Hitler and others), and lives for a few seconds before getting his face smashed in.

For Broly to be in HFIL, wouldn't his movies need to be cannon?

Just a question~
hahahah DBGT. DBGT is what happens when you try to use filler material to make a new TV show.
Ugh, I'm replying again
because the Comment box
is covering up the reply
button.

Hm so that's the reason
we can't see everything
but the three crappy
forums? We were banned?
I can understand me, but
why would you get banned?
i dont think anybody got banned. Im not allowed to post there either, and it appears the posts that are from that category are not restricted from my access, but in fact missing. SSGX took my advice and axed that stupid place.

To your post, DBGT is filler. The movies are filler. Only take seriously the parts of the series that have manga backing them up.

What the hell I am Masterdan now?

Oh god I hate my comment box. I can't tell what the crap I am typing.

Anywho, I dislike DBGT and everything, but it has been bugging me for a while. I don't consider GT filler, because from what I remember, Akira Toriyama headed the production of GT, so wouldn't it make the Broly crap cannon?

I dunno. I'm going back to watching Hostel, and I apologize for any mispellings.

Go away comment box.
Nope, no bannings... Seems to be some sort of side effect from the site upgrade... All of the forums but those three newest ones somehow had their read/write options for members turned off...

Anyways, to get one thing out of the way first off, DBGT itself isn't even canonical to the series...

The only parts in the DB/Z universe that are actually canon are parts that come from Toriyama's manga... GT, however, was written by the guys at Toei animation...

They're also the guys who wrote the movies, and all of the filler episodes in the original two series (including HFIL itself! Toriyama's work doesn't even include any part of the afterlife outside of Enma's palace, Snake Way, King Kaio's planet, and the locations Kaioshin, Gohan, Goku, and Rou Kaioshin reside on for Gohan's training during the Buu Saga... HFIL and the entire afterlife tournament are added filler)

So basically, GT can't be used to justify the movies, because it's on the same level as they are...

Now to get to the matter at hand:

Virtually none of the movies fit within the series canon... Only a few even come close, and there's almost always at least one or two details that keep them from fitting...

This link sums it up nicely...

For proof, though, all you've got to do is look at the characters and try to place the movies into the series timeline (based on who's included, what their powers are, how they look, etc.) and you'll often find out that the point they fit into is impossible, because they're already busy doing something else (I.E. fighting Cell, or on Planet Namek or something else which would make it impossible for them to be off on some other adventure) or it's impossible because the details don't match (I.E. Future Trunks is there when he shouldn't be, or Gohan hasn't reached Super Saiyan yet when he has already by that point in the series, etc.)

In the first Brolly movie, there are a few problems, actually...

From the characters included, and their powers/appearances, we must place this movie at a point during the Cell Saga sometime after they've all come out of Room of Spirit and Time/Hyperbolic Time Chamber training, but before they actually fought Cell (obviously, there's no time then, plus Goku is not dead, and King Kai's planet still exists)

The problem here is that this only leaves a very small window of time for the events of movie 8 to occur... To be exact, it can only have happened during the 10 days that Cell gave them to prepare for his tournament...

Now, 10 days would be plenty of time for them all to head off into space and defeat Brolly... However, those 10 days were filled with other events on Earth that they were all taking a part of... (of course, most of the episodes in the series during this time, like Gohan's birthday, are Toei filler episodes as well)

So movie 8 just couldn't have occured according to the actual series timeline...
