Holy S***. I'm buying one, I don't care if it's first-gen!

Edit: Some great pics/info here: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/01/15/ apples_new_macbook_air_dubbed_worlds_thinnest_notebook.html
Checked out the specs, Holy cow!

2GB of Ram
1.8Ghz Processor
80Gb Hard Drive
A full FIVE hours of battery life!

That's rather impressive for such a tiny computer. I want one too!
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100;

no thanks, ew.

What did you expect? A freaking 8800GTX?
I can still play WoW with those graphics, and the 64 gig SSD drive has made me satisfied in the pants.
Yeah, it's a pretty laptop. Let's hope other companies take note and ultra-portables start getting to a decent price while being fully functional(like the Air is).

I'm impressed with the size, at least from the pictures I've seen so far.

Intel is the devil.
Why the hell should anybody care about how thin a laptop is?

Maybe I just don't "get" Macs. It seems to require a completely illogical thought process.

When you're like me and need to carry a laptop everywhere and need it to be as portable and light as possible. Design and visual appeal aren't throw-away features for computers, as Apple has already proved.

Just curious... have you used one in the past couple years? The one thing that stands out most about Macs (especially the OS) is how intuitive they are!

Windows *and* Linux were designed by geeks with little to no concept of design or logical, intuitive use. Just look at the travesty that is Windows Vista.
I've dealt with Macs in recent history, and didn't find any special connection to them. In fact, I felt limited and cramped. I own an iPod, and my biggest problem with it is I am forced to use iTunes(there are alternatives, but Apple makes it hard to use anything else). Heck, I can't even have my own audio books show up in the audio book section of my iPod/iTunes. Some of us just want to do more with the things we own.

The Air is interesting because laptops are made to travel with. It's why 17" monitors on laptops really don't sell. A small, thin notebook would be ideal for taking on trips. And a 5 hour battery life is impressive for the size and weight.

I dunno. I think both Windows XP and Unix kick the ass of anything else when it comes to design. I'd rather work off command-prompt linux than work off a mac. Apple's dumb regulations and poor product quality, IMHO, surpass even microsoft. The only way they can even compete with microsoft is by turning Macs into a trend.

See; people who are okay with the command-prompt are *exactly* the type of people who are making design decisions on the other operating systems. Not that there is anything wrong with those types of people... but the fact that Apple approaches it differently is why they've made the most advanced OS to date.

Mr. Wizard, cover your shame. Your Mac smug is showing.
No way is MAC the most advanced OS to date. Maybe it has the most features but it is no way the most advanced. And even the majority of Mac fans would agree. Macs are a great portable media device in my opinion.
Show me a superior operating system and I'll admit that I'm wrong!

Show me how the Mac is so superior and I'll admit that i am wrong!

There's a lot more to an OS than just a pretty interface.

A normal laptop is already much thinner than, say, a college textbook. Additionally, I can't find anything saying how HEAVY it is, which I'd think would be the first thing they'd advertise (if Apple wasn't so vapid as to think nothing but looks matters, of course).

I have. The touchpad didn't work, using a USB mouse wouldn't work, the laptop become completely unresponsive after a while, and all in all it was a piece of shit. And no, it wasn't intuitive.

Windows *and* Linux were designed by geeks with little to no concept of design or logical, intuitive use. Just look at the travesty that is Windows Vista.

I have no problem using my computer. If you do, that's your own problem, really.
Someone just told me that the MacBook Air weighs 3lb. In that case, the question is, "is it worth spending $1000 more for a laptop that weighs 2lb less than other laptops?"

The answer is: "Yes, if you're obsessed with macs."
In my opinion, like it or not, Apple does the 'operating system' right. Many Linux distros are close, but aren't there. Windows was close, but fell behind with Vista.

This is why I aim for Mac computers. Unless a Linux distro can up the Mac and show me that it really does it better, I'll stick with what is best.

And on the issue of price, I have no problem paying money if I think I am getting every dollar worth.

Superb design is better than 'just enough,' for me.
