My 2 year contract finally ran out with Sprint and I'm looking at my options for getting my own plan. The one main thing I'm looking for is the ability for me to upload my own content to my phone, via something like bluetooth or USB from my computer. (ringtones, pictures, programs, etc.) I really don't know much about cell phones, but I absolutely loathe the fact that you get charged for just about anything you want to do with them.
Obviously I don't want to spend a lot of money (a lot being over $100 for just a phone), but if it's a worthy investment that's going to last me a while, I might consider it. My wife will need to be covered as well, but I don't think she really cares about the bells and whistles, she mostly just gets calls about bunnies.
Suggestions anyone?

Or you can get AT&T and find a place (most places do this) and get a free RAZR...and with a little hacking (a driver to install and a program) you can hack into it and upload photos/ringtones/videos and even take them off the phone. We have AT&T and have 3 lines with 800 minutes, free night and weekend, and free mobile to mobile with rollover and our bill averages $70-80 a month.
However the RAZR only has like 4 MB of space so you might want a phone with a MicroSD slot so you can add more memory when you like... |
I've had my Motorola SLVR L7 for about a year now, and I love it. MicrSD slot as well as a USB port to plug into the computer.
One of the biggest drawbacks of that phone is it's weak processor, though it only makes a difference when you're playing games on the cellphone (probably something you won't be doing). There's an L9 SLVR out. It's supposedly better, but I haven't used it before. |
Well.. i have had my US CELLULAR plan for about 6 months... and they screwed my payment up twice, almost making me have to pay for their mistakes. Plus when i got my phone, there was a guy's phone that she was playing with that just fell into the toilet. so when she handed me my phone i felt kinda sick.

Google is releasing Android mobile phone software some time next year, which will connect to AT&T and T-Mobile as well.
The reason it's those two companies is that their technology is similar to that used in the rest of the world, as opposed to the likes of Verizon and Sprint who use incompatible technologies to better control (and monetize) their users behaviour.
Personally, I suggest that you go with T-Mobile. The "Faves" system gives you unlimited calling to 5 numbers of your choice, which is ripe with possibilities for hacking and gives you a few contacts with whom you can converse as much as you like without cutting into your minutes at all. Besides that, they are an international company based in Germany, so they are much more progressive with their technology than the relatively sluggish American providers.
