I had 2 hours to burn so i thought id make up a demo for the basic starting point for any Anime Game. This is in an attempt to remove noob developers dependency from Nbotls. This is not well polished, and i havnt even really tested it. Ill update it later, it is functional and better than the nbotls source. "That Anime Game Demo [0.01a] This Demo was made by Masterdan, i made use of outdated Naruto GOA icons all within it. All graphics are meant to only be placeholders, please if your going to use somebody elses graphics make it RPGMaker graphics, or else it looks tacky. Explore a little, this demo does: Save handling Character Loading Basic AI Character Creation Basic Combat Basic Skills And i even through in Katon grand fireball from Naruto GOA for you guys to play with. Enjoy" Link: http://homepages.ucalgary.ca/~ddvankam/byond/Anime_Game_src.zip This code was made up very quickly. Some recycled from outdated GOA code. Dont judge too harshly, it is just a demo. UPDATE: If you downloaded this Before 5PM Mountain Time on Oct29, get the new version 0.2a. The first draft had slip-ups from insomnia. Should work fine now. Also added new features: New from [0.01a] to [0.20a]. Straight projectiles Straight projectiles with a trail Item system Various bug fixes New Demo Skill AI fixing Blood Effect Demo item Old link works. Link please? Its up now. Its just a few aspects of GOA thrown in. Its not like GOAs source or anything like that. How i did saving and a few other things are worth looking at however. |
Wow there are a lot of trolls out there.
CaptFalcon and Keeth need to get lives. |
Maybe it would be better to make a library that acts like an expansion to "Your first world" by Dantom. There's really no point in creating an entirely new world for users, especially if you really don't put your heart and your head fully into it.

Eww. Ugly, ugly code. Bad practices everywhere. if(PIF_Is_A_Jerk) return "Cry" The bad practice of not using boolean variables is something I do occasionally when im tired. Who knows why, again though the demo was made in 2 hours at around midnight. I dont know why it should be subject to such harsh critisism. |
Btw remove the #include Deadron.Texthandling This library shouldnt include it.
Ill work on it for a few minutes before i study for my second last midterm. For everybody who is comparing it to the zeta source / nbotls source. Be fair, those sources are REALLY bad this might be messy but at least the save system and such is efficient. Fyi i definetly jumped the gun on releasing this. However ill be updating it little by little. And can i just say, i know you guys are trying to critisize because i didnt put much time into this and its got a few bad practices in it. However im just trying to put what little time i have into releasing a demo that people can use that isnt considered ripping and has better practices and examples than the nbotls code. The nbotls code doesnt use lists, ever. Theres no intelligent use of save files, theres a terrible login system in which you pick from "Slot1", "Slot2", "Slot3" without any idea which character it is. Theres AI that runs off an ungodly amount of CPU for no good reason. I know there should be a demo that is polished and such for anime game making noobs, but none of you have made any attempts to cater to that audience. So i just think that you shouldnt put down efforts that none of you have even made. I dont think its better to let them learn from nbotls, and if you ever saw the code youd think i was some sort of genius in comparison. |

Just like bullets. That little flame blast? As far as coding is concerned, no different from a flamethrower or fire spell. There is no reason Anime games should need their own genre of demos and libraries. That said, it's good to want to help the community (and that is definitely a part that needs help). However, you can't settle for second-rate when it comes to learning. It's an all-or-nothing kind of thing. Good luck fixing it up, but in the future, do that first and run it by someone else to see if they have any suggestions. Once you feel it's as good as it's going to get and someone* else agrees, release it. Demos are no place for feeling lazy. *Chat is usually a good place to go. Although there are a few trolls from time to time who like to hassle people. Just be polite and you should be fine. |

Masterdan wrote: Yeah i agree with all of that you said. However I mean it was version 0.01a, and i made it very clear it was really nothing worth taking too seriously at this point. Now that ive updated to 0.20a i think its actually okay for new people to download it. The only reason i put the emphasis on Anime game is because it makes up so much of the community, and its focus is to replace dependency on nbotls/Zeta sources which are BAD and constitutes ripping to use them. |
If you're releasing something educational, you should really make sure it's something to take seriously, otherwise you just look like a fool.
I'm not saying that to sound mean but it's the honest truth. You have legions of clueless BYONDers following your example, something that you promote as educational probably means a good deal to some of them. You shouldn't have to make excuses as to why you did something wrong, either fix it or remove it and releasing something before it's ready is never a good idea, no matter how much you think it might please yourself or someone else. |
All graphics are meant to only be placeholders, please if your going to use somebody
elses graphics make it RPGMaker graphics, or else it looks tacky. More quotes for the MDQB (Masterdan quote database!) |

All graphics are meant to only be placeholders, please if your going to use somebody ? and thats because? you dont have any idea how logic works. If your incapable of making your own graphics DONT steal from other byond games. Use freely available RPGMaker graphics instead at very least as placeholders until you gain capacity to create your own graphics. It makes perfect sense, its far less tacky to use graphics produced to make your own game than to steal from other half baked byond games. Its fairly obvious that GOA does not use RPGmaker graphics, you smartass moron. Thanks for comming out. Thanks again for taking my shit out of context and treating me like a celebrity. Really quite amusing. |

Its a demo, i dont care what you want to use it for, but its better than the nbotls crap flying around. If you want to make a better one PLEASE do. I dont have time to make polished libraries or full out Demos. Something IS better than nothing though, i fully disagree with your statement to the contrary. And fyi, this was in fact to help the noobs. Yet people who obviously wont appreciate it are the only ones criticizing it. Your not my target audience. Fuck off. Im targeting people who dont know what they are doing and need a base. They dont want to collect a series of libraries and figure out how to make them work together. They want something that runs that they can edit. Im helping fix the Nbotls infestation. Why dont you guys all help me instead of being dicks about it. Sooo sick of you guys trying to jump down my throat even when i try to do something entirely to help out the people who need it most around here. They will keep making anime games whether or not you think they deserve to, they learn by trying. |

If you're going to teach bad practices in your "help," don't help. I do think this is a good idea, but before people start learning from your bad examples (what was that thing about boolean variables-- those really aren't mistakes people make any any time of night), take a look and make sure everything is okay. It might turn out not be so bad after all. And just because Nbottles doesn't use lists or a clever savefile system doesn't mean it's any better or worse than yours. Nbottles was bad, but who's to say yours is any better? From what I've seen, it's not, and there are too many factors to take into account when comparing--unless it is obviously better. I'm only being a critic to help you. I'm not really one to talk. Look at my hub, I've got nothing released, and the thing I do have is a bit hacky. I've seen what I've done wrong the first time around, but haven't gotten around to fix it. |
There are better demos/libraries out there already.
Your first world Step BYOND Leveling System Equipment system Hud handling AI Combat system Saving and Loading Event loops Spell handling I really don't see the point in needing anything else to start a good game, and these people did put forth an effort. You are not the first person to make anything like this, all you did is collaborate the concepts into a half-assed source that you want to simply rival a ripped one. You brag about how great a programmer you are and yet you release this garbage with the excuse that you really didn't care about it and the ignorance that you think it's going to help anybody. I would do better if these didn't already exist, there are plenty of resources out there for ANY target audience, not just rippers. By the way I was trying to help you with ideas and constructive criticism and you flipped, lay off your caffeine and if you're not going to help people properly then don't help, you're just going to spawn more confusion and horrible games. |

They dont know how and its too much work. Now heres the thing, What exactly do you guys have up your ass about the code? For one i know LG10 doesnt even know how to code, so it seems likely half of you are just being bandwagoners. Please give me legitimate critisisms instead of just being a bunch of maraudering twats all day long. |
(interested in looking at how you did a few things; not really interested in the anime part of it.]
