It's rather hard to make a decision for an artist, I didn't quite prepare for how difficult a decision it was.
Trying to make a judgement on how good someone is based on past work seems to be one of the most difficult things, but I know also whoever I go with as long as they have work ethic and will do what I ask then they will only get better.
I will post soon all the artists applying for the position, and I want to hear what everyone thinks of their work to help me make a decision.

I wouldn't worry about the person's artwork that much. Someone may have a lot of talent, but lacks commitment. The worst thing is when your artist's bail out on you. You want to find someone that wants to do the job. Instead of seeing who has the most talent, you should explain your game a little more and see who would want to work on that kind of game.

How about you do this: Have them all make an icon of something, then have them work on the icon(give a deadline), and then either decide for yourself, or throw yourself to the mercy of BYOND(which is usually a mistake). That way, everyone's being judged on their work with something(or else you could be judging if a dog icon or a bird icon is better)

Personally I think the best thing you could do is build your game without any fancy artwork. Then, when its completed to the point that you know what-all artwork needs to be redone, you can ask for people who are good at that specific kind of artwork.
Then its a one-time job for the artist, and not a long-term commitment. |
It has to be up to you. =/
