That's a NES Metroid password.

And Masterdan, why don't you have a try and see if it's a joke? And "fail" has been popularized by 4chan, mind you...

Sure enough, it was used sparingly before them, but the wide-spread use of it on the internet comes from them.

I just tried it, and it started me at Tourian with 30 health, Ice Beam, and over 240 missiles. :(
