I'm trying to work on the BYOND Help Hosting troubleshooting section. Problem is, the only Firewall I've ever used on Windows is the built in Windows firewall. So what I need is a few people with different firewalls to give me a lot of screenshots of how they forward ports.
If there are multiple ways of forwarding ports (for example, a window that automatically pops up and asks about ports and manually adding ports) I'd prefer both.
Also, if anyone could suggest a good screenshot program, I'd really like that. BYOND Help requires a lot of screenshots, and "alt+Print Screen, then open paint, paste, cut/crop, save as png" is really more work than should be done. And I'd like to make it easier for others to help me also. KDE has a great screen capture program. You press Print Screen and a nice little program pops up, with the picture in a small view, and a save button remember the last place you saved it, and you can edit the name right there. Quick and simple, what Windows Print Screen only wishes it was.

An important point to note: ZoneAlarm (Free Edition) does not allow ports to be selectively opened. Rather, programs themselves are either cleared or opened for two kinds of access; "Internet" access means the program is allowed to accept data being sent from the internet, while "Server" access means the program is allowed to transmit data to an external site (excluding some standard ports, through which ZoneAlarm always allows transmissions even without "Server" access).
Once a program is cleared for "Internet" access, ZoneAlarm requires the program to be "listening" on a port before it will accept external connections to such a port; if no program is listening on a port, ZoneAlarm does not send a reply to any external query, effectively making the computer on the receiving end totally hidden from the internet. If a program is cleared for "Server" access, ZoneAlarm allows it to send data through any port the program wishes to use. A program cannot be configured for "Server" access without also being configured for "Internet" access. Finally, there are two zones: "Internet" is any zone which you have not specifically classified. "Trusted" is any zone which you manually specify as being trusted. You can choose independent "Internet" and "Server" access settings for individual programs based on whether they are transmitting to Trusted zones or Internet zones. However, the actual Trusted zones are global to the entire program (at least in the free version) and cannot be configured individually on a per-program basis. Long story short, to configure ZoneAlarm for hosting, all you need to do is configure Dream Daemon and/or Dream Seeker for both "Internet" and "Server" access on the "Internet" zone. If you still can't host, it's probably a hardware problem. [edit] I'm personally fond of: http://www.progency.com/other.html#screenrip32 |
