Do not use .bmp images on the internet, ever. No, I'm serious here, don't do it. They're a horrible, bulky, large format that is too large to be worth anything, and even take a considerable amount of time to load on high-speed connections. If you don't need a picture with high detail, then use .jpg files. Otherwise, you should probably use .png images. If you're too stupid to make your images in a format other than .bmp, then you're probably too stupid for anyone to give a damn about your posts.
I hope this wasn't just directed to me. I was quickly taking the screenshots VIA paint, so I saved them quickly before I could change the format.

I'll remember that next time though, thanks.
"Quickly", isn't a valid answer because it takes all of a third of a second to change the format.
I was rushing it. =\
I don't understand how anyone could use anything but png.
Also, don't save it as a Bmp and then rename the extension as Jpg. That's like taking a fat person in a red bikini and putting her in a blue one instead of removing the weight.

Funny. :o
fully agreed. i have a hard time understanding the use of anything but pngs. They are fantastic!

Ive seen a few byond games using bmp files for titlescreens etc. Its a huge waste.
But blue is slimming!
Blue makes it LOOK slimming but doesn't help with the actual ugliness/"largeness" of the situation ;/
For the internet, yes, jpg, gif or png. Otherwise, tif and bmp (I think) are used for printing high-quality images.
.png all the way, baby!

They're not always the smallest format for a particular image, but they're always the highest quality!

In fact, the only thing that was holding them back from popular use was IE's lack of support... That's changed, though (even though IE still doesn't render them properly, with the darkening and all)

So now, there's absolutely no excuse not to use them for every single non-animated graphic you put on the internet...
