Poll: Do you think its morally right to exploit a rip?

Hell yes, that's what those noobs get 69% (18)
No, but teaching them a lesson would be kinda fun I guess 30% (8)

Do you think it is wrong to exploit bugs such as faulty security systems and crash inducing verbs/procs in rips? Sure it can be fun at times and sure they are ripping(which is bad) but would you say its ethical? Technically, it IS legal to cause havoc in-game seeing as its the owner's responsibility of protecting it..But would you even go as far as saying that someone is a bad person for doing so; as in reflecting upon their personality on Byond(ie. if Lummox Jr spammed some rip, would you think he's a noob)? And yes I have done it before in the past; just wondering ha anybody else..You have to admit; it IS kinda fun..0_0
I don't see how it's fun. You're just wasting your time. Just stop letting rips bother you. Also, since you asked whether it makes you a noob or not, I think it shows immaturity.
No I don't think people should. You are talking on terms of legality, but you know what? A person can easily track down your ISP and contact them, complaining about you harassing a online community. And in most terms of services with most ISP, that is breaking contract. Not only that, if the person is paying for hosting, those exploits could be costing them bandwidth. If you cost me an ass load of Bandwidth, I wouldn't think twice about trying to get it from you for abuse.
I dont think its wrong, >_> hate to say it. I remember when DBGekisen was leaked, and i knew a bunch of exploits that would crash the server, and i did on a few games when it first happened. I think its karma for not knowing anything about the code you are using, i think it would be a big shame not to exact revenge on thiefs. Its like them stealing from an ATM only to have a ink pouch explode on their bounty of moola.
There is a huge difference between between someone stealing from an ATM and someone stealing a source code on BYOND that was already considered a rip to begin with. If not ripped code, ripped graphics.

No one is hurting anything when they run those games, some people enjoy it, some people don't. Big deal. I don't think anyone has any right to ruin another person's good time and that includes ruining a online community.

It isn't Karma, it is being a dick. Of course I can see why you would be upset, it was your game. Oh well.

Its a tricky situation, not an easy question, the only games i ever did it to were ones that
A) used gekisen source code
B) spammed gekisens with invites to the rip.

Otherwise i wouldnt have bothered.
There's a bit of a flaw in your 'it's their responsibility to stop me, so it's legal' train of thought. If that was true then most forms of theft would be as well. Try explaining to the police that the money is yours because the original owner didn't put in enough effort to protect it from you. How about bashing an old lady and claiming it's her own fault for not protecting herself better.

I don't know whether it's illegal or not to do what you described. I doubt it's legal, but I also doubt anyone would take it seriously.

This situation is more like, somebody steals your cell phone, so you have it disconnected. Sounds reasonable and its actually really similar to whats happening on byond.
Yes because you can disconnect graphics.

you fail to understand what your talking about.

Steal a game as a whole, then the person who made the code knows all the flaws in it. Theres basically ways for somebody who made the code to shut it down whenever they want, because they find things that crash the server, fix it for themselves and then outdated sources still have the bug. Its kind of a way to turn off rips of your code, like you found an off switch that you only found because you know how your code works because it is in fact yours. I think its fair, but still i dont think i would do it only because its not worth my time and id feel bad. However i defend that i did it 4 years ago, i think it was fair game.
