I was, and am, a big fan of Ayn Rand. 17 years ago I was moderately hardcore (if you'll forgive the oxymoron). Now I'm more laid back, but I still think she tells a heck of a story, even with the proselytizing and whatnot.
Anyway, I mention that to tell you this: I have coined a felicitous term. The peculiar faculty that lets devout devotees of Ayn Rand detect deviations from, or insults to, her philosophy [1] is henceforth dubbed "Randar."
I'm not sure about the legal aspects of coining a word, so I guess we may as well say this one's in the public domain.
[1] Or detect insults where none is present, for that matter.

Never heard of her, but big fan of Andrew Ryan! Heh... yep, it was Bioshock that inspired this post. A few Rand admirers out there are pretty vocal about how Ken Levine is distorting or outright mocking Rand's philosophy. The fact that Rand is only one of the game's inspirations -- and that Levine has said some pretty positive things about her -- and that no one yet knows exactly what Ryan's philosophy was, or whose fault it was that Rapture fell apart -- doesn't seem to deter them in the least! |
Wait. So an Ayn Rand fanboy's part of the brain that deals with insults is "Randar"...would that make the insults themselves "randee", or "randy"? Defending the works of Ayn Rand gets you horny?
Behave.
Well, you said you're not as randy now as you were 17 years ago. They have pills to help you with that sort of thing, you know. :)
