So, Dragon Warrior: Shadows of Erdrick is completely ready to be published, and I submitted it tonight... What's my next step? I read some forum posts and I guess I just... wait? If anyone have any experience with this, maybe you can help me to determine how long I wait, or if there are anything else i need to do to complete it's publication???

Wait. You could be waiting up to 4 months though, so good luck.
|
its like... why 4 months? the game is huge... averages 25-40 players simultaneously every single day, sometimes more, has more features than any other dw game on byond, and is super super fast/stable, especially with the new server i just set up...
i'd think they'd be proud to publish it... |
Uh, I have been cleaning out Strategy and FanGames for the past week now, so you submit it now it will probably be in review for about a day before accepted.
|
wow, i just realized how retarded the original post looks with "there are" and "if anyone have" hahah i must have been really really high when i wrote that... i dont remember.
|
averages 25-40 players simultaneously every single day, sometimes more, has more features than any other dw game on byond, You of all people should know that well over half of those "40" are multikeys. There's probably 10-15 people average. And there arne't more features than any other DW game on Byond... >_> You have to be talking about the party system, because DWQ has almost everything else (exception being the pets) that SoE has, and DWQ also has a Dharma shrine anyone can access. I'm almost certain you can only CC Goof-off to Sage on SoE. I'm not sure SoE has any boss fights or any plot. DWQ's plot isn't anything more than "Go find the source of the growing evil and defeat it", but was DW1-3's plot more than that? >_> Now DW4, there was a game with plot. DWQ has HUD menus in it, even if it doesn't have HUD NPCs. HOWEVER, one version of DWQ DID HAVE HUD NPCs. I'm going to ask Grey what happened to that after I'm done posting this. >_> There were no bugs in it except that he forgot to take out the HTML tags :P whoops. DWQ also has more ties with the DW series, like most of the equipment and level ups are based on DW3. Not the hybrid classes, but they don't count because DQ 6 and 7 (where the Hybrids come from) had a differant class system. So I don't see how SoE has more features >_> |
DWQ's class-change really screwed with the rest of the game, though. Once you reached the point where you got hybrid classes, it was pretty much assumed that you had every class mastered with every skill for the rest of the game, and it turned into a DBZ-esque level 'til you die treadmill. Granted, SoE isn't nearly as big as DWQ is but it doesn't hit the "treadmill" stage until later on.
As I recall, Sages weren't supposed to be in SoE anyway, thank Eponick for that. But the reason why there is no class-change system (in spite of my pushing for one for a short period of time) is because once that happens, you're forced to design the rest of the game's difficulty based on the strongest creatable character, and that just fucks everything up. Look at DWQ. At least SoE has the luxury of multikeying with a multi-monster fighting system. Yeah, it sucks when people just fill up on alts and play with themselves all day but that's not going to change now, since people have been pampered with it. As far as plot goes, no. I didn't notice any real plot in SoE. But I didn't see one either with DWQ. It was just assumed that you go from town to town until you "finished it". And yes, DW3 did have more of a plot than DWQ. If you're calling equipment names a tie to the actual series, that alone is a very poor tie. And after "beating" DWQ at least once (or at least beating AsuraZoma) the game did not really play like any of the real DW games as I remember it (and isn't that the general point of a fangame to begin with?) SoE has its problems too but at least for the first part of the game it feels more like a spinoff of the series than DWQ did. SoE is hardly my favorite game on Byond either but I wouldn't put DWQ over it. |
Its not just the names; all the values of equipment are actual values (with the exception of Miracle Sword and the other stuff Greyhawk implemented; he wasn't as strict with the ties as Rubius, Flash, and Mart were.)
and it turned into a DBZ-esque level 'til you die treadmill. Well, in SoE there is no level cap, so isn't that what you do there? >_> I know at least some people are over level 100, probably using Wizards to blast everything away as I've said before =/ Having never been with a level 100 of any class (just Soda and Gallow) though I can't confirm that o_O Also, once you hit max level in DWQ the game gets boring for most people and only like 3-4 people really do the seed-training any more (Which leads to people with chars like mine that could smash charactors from Final Fantasy games, but Grey is doing stuff to slow that process because he's evil) DWQ may not be my "favorite" game, but I don't really play any Byond games any more; I just chat on DWQ, abuse my GM on _D_W_, sometimes pop in to the Members server of Last Robot Standing, and otherwise just find something amusing to do to past the time (besides evil homework. Ew.) |
you know, cowdude... i have half-a-mind to delete all of your comments from this post, and i'll tell you why.
you don't know shit. don't go babbling on about the SoE that you knew a year ago when you actually used to "play" (or hang around an annoy the shit out of everybody, as i remember it...) if you have a fucking grudge, don't take it out in public where people will read your inaccurate bullshit and fabricate negative opinions about our game based on what you percieved it to be over a year ago. dwq? dont even talk to me about dwq. it's not an online dragon warrior game unless you can party. period. you were already on my list of "people that suck," cowdude, and guess what? thanks to your lies and unmerited slander, now you're on my list of "wastes of oxygen." congratulations. |
...and come to think of it... how can you claim that dwq has more *features* than dwsoe? almost every key dragon warrior *feature* has been implemented in SoE, (and THEN some) and thats FAR more than dwq has even dreamed of.
i challenge you, ass hole. aside from class-changing, which is retarded for an online fan game anyways, (for a number of reasons which have already been stated,) name a feature that soe doesnt have. because... frankly... i can make a very nice list of *features* that soe has, and dwq doesn't if you'd like. |
it's not an online dragon warrior game unless you can party. period. lol I don't see how class-changing is a bad thing though. I think if it was, then it'd have been removed by now. You forgot that DW3, DW6, and DW7 all used class changing--even if DW3 differs from 6 and 7. There is no way to code the classes in to prevent people from finding one or two that's better than the rest (Greyhawk pointed this out with DWQ but he's trying to reduce it even though the problem probably can't be completely eradicated). For instance, Soldiers can't heal in SoE, so nobody's going to be a soldier unless they multikey. Herbs only carry you so far. I never really complained about SoE having few features, just mostly that everything was unbalanced: which I still believe. As for "Sorry, your key has been temporarily in-game banned." I don't see what I did o_O However, if that's how you're going to be, I'll just be like the 10000 people who get banned from games are not , and just keep it to myself that you would do something like that and ignore the problem since I don't play the game much anyway; I was just going to follow someone who would most likely ignore my pages anyway. |
The only hole in your class-change argument is that DW3, 6 and 7 also just happen to be single-player. With single-player games balance is not really a big concern.
As much as I appreciate GreyHawk's effort into DWQ, trying to "nerf" an entire aspect of the game that the rest of it has been built around is not going to help the game in the slightest. ...on the other hand, banning someone from a game for something outside of it sounds like a rather poor moderation habit. I expected better than that, even if you don't like Cowdude. :-/ |
well in DW3, you get the weak classes, level them until you have the skills, and change them all to Sage or Soldier for their attack and HP. I don't see why multiplayer matters there.
Also, DW1 didn't have party systems, but it did have boss monsters. Three even. Does SoE have boss monsters yet? o_O because that's a "key *feature*" from every RPG like...ever o_o but oh well since I'm a terrible person I will leave now. |
That's all well and good in a single-player game, because you don't have to worry about people using all classes equally. When it comes to multiplayer, who will be more up for grabs? An overlooked class that can't accomplish much, or the one that can do everything? Keeping class-changing out is just one of several steps needed to make sure each class has something it's useful for. And the "Well you can party with friends" line won't work. That's the exception, not the rule. And generally when a new person starts a game for the first time, they're not instantly friends with the entire server.
I think there's...1 boss monster in SoE, that I can recall anyway. DWQ is loaded with them, only serving to steepen the leveling treadmill another step each time. If you're going to mention a lack of a certain feature, it's only fair to mention the overabndance on the other side. Unrelated, but DW1 had at least 4 boss monsters. Green Dragon in the cave, Golem, Axe Knight of Hauksness and finally the Dragonlord. |
