Yeah, I'm sure I've used that joke before, and I see Bovine_Buddy used it just today. But like I read in "Late Night with David Letterman: The Book", if a joke is good, it's worth telling over and over again.
The plan is that tomorrow night I leave for Michigan. Next Sunday I should be back. In the meantime Lummox and Hiead will be at the Dream Makers helm. Hold her steady, boys!
And for those of you who've read this far -- and who are 360 owners -- some bad news and good news.
Bad: Two Worlds has been pushed back to 8/21, the same date as Bioshock, so I probably won't be playing Two Worlds until 8/28 or thereabouts.
Bad: GTA IV has been pushed back to 2008! I figured it would be delayed (if it wasn't, it would defy tradition), but not by months. But hey, if that's what it takes to get the bugs out, go for it. (That goes for Two Worlds as well.)
Good: Bioshock is still on schedule for 8/21 and the early reviews are awesome. One reviewer mentioned in a podcast that he thinks it's better than his previous favorite game, Deus Ex, and Half-Life 2 as well -- I haven't played either of those, but reliable sources give them exceedingly high marks. I hate to get hyped about games because of the letdown that so often follows, but... I'm hyped.
[Edit: Come to think of it, if I get hyped about a game, I'm usually not disappointed -- probably because I do obsessive research about it up to the release date. For me, it's movie hype that usually ends up being overblown.]

You'd do yourself a big favour to pick up the original Deus Ex from wherever you can find it. It's a great game.

JT, I have a nice long list of great PC games that I should try -- and that may or may not work on Vista. :) (Blade Runner: fail. Next up to try: Grim Fandango.)
Basik, they're planning to release an "Orange Box" for 360 that contains HL2 and various expansions. I definitely plan to get it. Actually, I've already gotten a ton of enjoyment out of HL2 just from watching "G-Man"/"Garry's Mod" stuff on YouTube and YTMND. |
It's annoying that Two Worlds is getting released with Bioshock but it could be worse, it could be getting released with GTA. =P
|
@ Jt: I'm currently playing through Deus Ex. Only this time I'm using a very special rule: no killing or knocking out anyone (NPCs killing other NPCs is largely unavoidable, and it doesn't count if you have to kill people on purpose to progress the story). It's actually very liberating- no need to worry about fitting more medipacks or electromag grenades into your inventory when you're not lugging about a (now useless) machine gun.
Bioshock is going to be amazing. Justified hype. |

I keep hoping to find one of those Bioshock reviews online, but I suspect they are print-only...
Anyway, the important question: Which podcast!? |

I once tried playing through DX without any lethal takedowns (except when required). Problem was I kept running out of gas grenades, and the baton is kinda wimpy when you're facing off against a bunch of guys with pistols... I stuck to the plan for the entire first level (much to Ms Navarre's disgust), and then said "stuff it" and went on a killing spree. Even if I'd kept it up for a while, I'm sure I would have been too sorely tempted in Hong Kong. DRAGON SWORD TO THE FACE! <3 |

PC Gamer blog talks about Bioshock http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ article.php?id=169315&site=pcg Bioshock-specific information starts at around the 10 minute mark. -Chris Kline, Lead Programmer, Bioshock |
Ah thanks -- I listen to the US version of the PC Gamer podcast, but would have missed this otherwise...

Non-lethal only really works for about the first quarter of the game. Thereafter, if you don't use lethal means against the Evil Men Behind The Curtain (real name withheld due to spoilers), you die. |
