After installing Deus Ex 2 on my new computer (with new awesome graphics card), I must say I'm pretty upset by it. It's terrible, awkward and rubbish; it was a better experience when it didn't run as well!
So now I'm pretty scared. How can you top Deus Ex? To be honest I wouldn't be disappointed if Deus Ex 3 was just a direct port of Deus Ex 1 with an awesome new engine to make it all smooth, good looking and sexy. That saves them the trouble of messing it up again!

Oh well, BioShock is supposed to be similar to Deus Ex and made of awesome.
Good enough for me! |
I didn't enjoy the original Deus Ex enough to finish it...however, due to a long-standing argument among the hardcore over whether System Shock 2 (which I love) is as good as Deus Ex or not, I'm planning to replay it soon in direct comparison, after which the answer shall be known!
|
I'm actually the other way around... finished Deus Ex, played System Shock 2 because of the frequent comparisons, and then got stalled on SS2. But not because I didn't like it or it was a "bad game"; far from it. I'm just too much of a wimp! My most recent save is me sitting in a corner hiding from exploding robots, and whimpering. Not enough resources... too many enemies... so claustrophobic... =(

Some tips to make it further in SS2:
- It may be good to restart after you understand more of how the game works. After getting to the point where I can guess you got stuck, I restarted and did much better now that I could make better choices. - The wrench is your friend. In the early levels you can do almost all your killing with the trusty wrench, saving your ammo. - When you get an energy weapon, remember that energy is free bullets! - It helps a lot to set some config settings to turn off insane levels of re-spawning and reduce or remove the weapon degradation. Even the game designers admitted they went a bit far with these things. Many people agree that weapon degradation, especially at the insane speed it happens in SS2, just isn't a fun aspect of gameplay. That said, I nominate the C-3PO droid thingies as most annoying NPCs ever! |
But I don't really want to restart... it'd take too long. =)
Thanks for the tips though, I'll keep them in mind if/when I go back and replay it. |
I'm looking forward to it though. I hope they ditch all of that bullshit they did in the second and stick with the original style.
With that said, the second Deus Ex was still entertaining. It wasn't nearly as good as the original, but it had the same idea of a huge tree of paths you can take in the story.
I don't see where they can go with the Third Deus Ex though. The Second Deus Ex... leaves no room for a sequel.
