The drums are synthesized. I use midi drums/synth/whatever-I-can't-record and use VST plugins in cakewalk homestudio to play them. The plugins basically replace the midi notes with wav files. I plan on picking something up called, "Drumkits from hell." It's basically a bunch of really high quality drum samples. When I do that, my drum tracks will sound alot better =).
