I'm going to be moving out and into my friends apartment within the next 6 months or so. I'm helping pay for thier apartment, and in return they are going to care for a pet for me when I am not around to play/feed/care for it.
I've found the pet I want, but I am having trouble finding a person that sells them around Indiana.
I want to get a Fennec Fox, I've always wanted one. I've been looking around, but no luck. If someone knows of a place or could help me find a place that sells them, it'd be greatly appreciated.
I live in Indiana, but any state touching Indiana will be fine for me to go to, also. Don't care about the price, I know they already cost alot(400-1500 dollars).
Heres a pic of one if you are too lazy to click the link.

Instead of wasting money on a pet that won't live very long anyhow, why not go to the pound and go save an animal there?

thats funny... i saw the topic, and i was going to post, "get a fox!" and then I opened up your page and there was a fox there.
they're so cool, you should def. go for it. |

Don't like dogs, lizards and such will stink up the place and they are getting a kitten. The fox won't have a short life, it will live to be about 14-23 years old. The average lifetime of a small dog or cat. If I went to 'save' a pet from the pound, guarentee that it's life is half over or more, or it's a real mean bastard, or both. Besides, who do you know who has a fox? |

I was just about to say that you need to get a fox! And dogs aren't smelly. :/
Foxes are cool, but if you want something real unique, go for a squirrel, llama, alpaca, or *gasp* kangaroo! I'd trade a testicle for a kangaroo. |

Same with sugar gliders, and the stores sell those around here.. But I like foxes more. Mikau, I was thinking about buying a ferret to go with the fox. Except I have only heard of ferrets, never got a good look at one. Aren't they like hairy worms? |
The fennec is nocturnal. Forcing it to be active during the day will disrupt its normal biocycles and will likely shorten its life. They are also extremely active, and need outlets for their energy. This, combined with their amazing digging and jumping ability can cause some issues, especially with escape!

I've thought about them being noctornal, but I heard that if you buy them while they are still a baby kit, it wouldn't really make a difference and would already be used to being awake in during the day, if you buy them from a breeder who has domesticated fennecs. The place is pretty big for an apartment, and I need something really active to keep me active. Since my friends are buying a kitten, we are buying a bunch of those cat tower things. Y'know, a tall scatching post with holes and platforms for your cat/small pet to crawl around and explore in? So when I can't go and be active with it, it can still expend its energy with the kitten. Not sure what I am going to do about the digging though. I might get a big sand box or somethin'. They've got a 4 bedroom, and since we aren't using the 4th, it was going to be the pets room anyway. |
