Well if you hadn't heard yet, NTL and Akira Toriyama have teamed up to produce an authentic Dragonball MMORPG simply called Dragonball Online. [ Official page translated | Japanese ]
With the creator acting as a heavy influence to the gameplay and story, I am to believe that it shall be the best MMORPG ever for a fan like me.
Too bad it's only being tested in Japan and Korea, hopefully it'll see American daylight in the near future. Bandai is in on it too, so it's a possibility.

I'm in love...
|
I think the developers actually said plans for porting it to America will start in 2008 or 2009.
Anyway, yeah, I'd sell all of my belongings to play this. |
My one grief about the info I've read so far is that Humans AND Saiyans start out on Earth while Nameks start out on (New?) Namek.
Kinda detracts from the idea of a Planet Vegeta born evil Saiyan I was thinking of. |
Wouldn't it be kinda broken?
I mean, Sayains and Nameks can far surpass Humans... I wonder how it will work, a SSJ4 against a human... or a super namek against a human... |
Sweet. If they could just get a Naruto MMORPG that would probably draw close to 80% of the annoying crowd from other MMORPGs....
I kid, of course. Actually, it looks rather nice. Reminds me of DQ on PS2. No way in hell I would get near it, though. |
Wow is all I can say. But I can tell it won't be that fun because DB isn't fit for an MMORPG.
|
That looks sweet.
Abhishake, I doubt they would be creating this game if it was not going to be great. Akira Toryiama is helping out, which says this will be awesome. I can think of millions of things to do in a game like this. I'm pretty sure this game will have space traveling from planet to planet and crap like that. I am also sure it will have guilds so you can conquer planets and crap with your guild or be space pirates or whatever. You know fighting someone in this game will be sick too. The only thing I don't like is the graphics. They look like paper characters, and that's stupid. |
The graphics are cell-shaded, and it looks like it's been extremely refined. It lost a bit of the cartoony look, but you can tell it's similar to the style of the Budokai games.
|
The graphics were actually designed by the creator himself and from what I see, they are the closest that anyone can get to taking an anime and turning it 3D. If they tried something similar to the intro to Ghost in the Shell or even as solid as WoW graphics they would lose the feel of playing in the cartoon.
Cell shading is genius in my opinion, it 3Ds a cartoon feel. |
The big rumor is, Saiyans are not a playable race.
As much as I would LOVE to live out my Vegeta Fantasies, I think no Saiyan Players could really help the game. Otherwise, everyone will be a saiyan. |

Nice pun, but from what I've heard it's only humans and nameks.
Of course the Dragonball Z franchise is sold heavily on the Saiyan race, so we'll have to wait and see. |
Dixon, that was just utter crap.
At the time, Vegeta was the strongest Saiyan to have existed thus far, aside from the Legendary Super Saiyan. There's no proof for that at all. King Vegeta and Bardock could easily have been much stronger than him. Bardock was shown to be stronger than Dodoria and Vegeta, when he first arrived on Earth, was weaker than Dodoria. Nameks(Who had an entire RACE that were more powerful then normal Super Saiyans when they were JUST BORN.) Um, no? Consider Dende for example. He was not stronger than a Super Saiyan at any point in time. Nor was any Namek except Piccolo (after fusing with Nail and Kami). As for what you were saying about Piccolo, if he had been fused with Kami, being able to kill Frieza - that's wrong as well. Guru only said that when considering Frieza's powerlevel in his normal form which was around 500,000. By the time Frieza reached form 4, he was out of everyone's reach and that was when he was at 1% of his full power. His transformation from form 1 (where Piccolo could apparently have beaten him) to form 4 100% was so dramatic that Piccolo would not have stood any chance. The reason why Piccolo is stronger than a Super Saiyan after fusing with Kami is for the following reasons: 1) He had done a lot of training before arriving at Namek. 2) He got a boost from fusing with Nail. 3) He trained for 3 years to beat the Androids. It's only after all that training did his fusion have such a great effect that he became stronger than a Super Saiyan. But the fact is, he was already pretty damn strong. Nameks, when they're born, are definitely stronger than humans. But this does not mean they're automatically stronger than Super Saiyans because Frieza and his men were clearly able to wipe out the entire planet and that includes their fighters. Piccolo was just exceptionally strong. Your point about Saiyans being weaker than Nameks at birth doesn't necessarily hold true either. There are no quotations of a Saiyan's or a Namek's powerlevel when they're born. What we do know is that there are elite first class Saiyan warriors. And they're not restricted to just 1 or 2 fighters, there was actually like an army of them as shown in the Bardock movie + clips from Frieza saga. And even if I believe all the nonsense you've written there, the fact is, Saiyans can also go Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 which is much stronger than a full Namek. Furthermore, Saiyans are born fighters. Their powerlevel increases very very greatly after each near death experience. Consider how much of a gain Vegeta got between Frieza transforming from form 3 to form 4. *Edit* Oh fine then, delete your post. <--(6:32 pm) BYOND Alert: Dixon has replied to The Naked Ninja's blog post 'Probably my most anticipated MMORPG'.
