Ah its that time again for another TCM blog...This time our target is you game developers and GMs out there. And without further adue, our top 5 ways to get more players in your game!
1. Truth in advertising: Advertising your game can be THE most effective way to getting more players. Think outside the box, I'm not necessarily saying go to someones game and spam the link, I'm saying try telling other people about it in a different game..eh? Remember how when you started it didn't matter if the game of the genre you wanted to play was crappy or was a rip...you just wanted to play it. *Example: Tell your world of warcraft buddies about the game*
2. Spruce up your graphics!: Changing a games graphics is one of the best ways to encourage a higher player count, whether it's a full-on sprite and turf change, or just the occasional new login screen.
3. Originality: As much as I want to put this first...I can't..But it is a great way to encourage players. Break away from the average game genre and be your own.
4. Smaller Help Files: Help files that can be summed up in a few paragraphs are always the best. Pages upon pages of help files tend to discourage or confuse others..Unless you're targetting a genius crowd.
5. Sort out your GMs: A game is only as great as it's customer service! Having good GMs is the cornerstone to having a great game.
Anyways...Random blogs at random moments...Whether you love it or hate it, feel free to flame it.

...What? 2. Spruce up your graphics!: Changing a games graphics is one of the best ways to encourage a higher player count, whether it's a full-on sprite and turf change, or just the occasional new login screen. Graphics should not attract players. Games aren't all about graphics. There are some great text games out there. 3. Originality: As much as I want to put this first...I can't..But it is a great way to encourage players. Break away from the average game genre and be your own. This should be at least second. You fail, sir. 4. Smaller Help Files: Help files that can be summed up in a few paragraphs are always the best. Pages upon pages of help files tend to discourage or confuse others..Unless you're targetting a genius crowd. I'll read pages upon pages of help files for a good game. 5. Sort out your GMs: A game is only as great as it's customer service! Having good GMs is the cornerstone to having a great game. I agree, but this should be at leastt #4. |

Whether they should or shouldn't, they do. That is the point he was going for. 3. Originality: As much as I want to put this first...I can't..But it is a great way to encourage players. Squeegy -> Sure there are plenty of great text games out there, but if you're going for a graphical game then Graphics are a huge part. You could have the best game in the world and with really lousy graphics you would only have roughly 1/8th of your should-be player base.
Even text games are graphical in a sense, if you have a Text MUD with very few colors, or one with too many eye-harming colors, it is approached the same way. As for this post, it seems pretty pointless to me. It just seemed like a rushed post in order to make a point. Take time with your tips, I don't really see them helping anyone in their current state. I do agree that originality does make a game unique, but it doesn't always make it better. I'd play a decent rip over an abysmal original any day of the week. |
TOO THE FUCK BAD IT DOESN'T WORK~~~~!!! 75% of byond is n00bs which make/play rips....

No im not saying rips are a bad thing but original games get less players then rips...that isall

Ha..I just noticed it said 10 at the start..anyways..I edited it..as for those of you who aren't getting the first part..I meant advertising as in completely other games..Like person A. plays some other random game online (examples: a chatroom text rpg, a mmorpg like warcraft, runescape, diablo,or one of those little pet games like neopets and any other competing pet game?) Lets say people advertise in there..if someone wants to play a dragonball game they're not really gonna care how it was coded or if it was stolen..they're just going to play a dragonball game..And if you tell them how to get there..if your games a rip or not they'll play it..Making this THE most effective way. *Person B tells everyone about their "great game" rip or not..and how to access it..and they could latch on to a few dedicated players for a month or so, until they discover the rest of the games.
