I am going to talk about a subject that deals with my game as it is getting a little annoying. My newest game, Blubomb, seems to be in the same genre as Lode Wars, which I assume is a Action Mining game? People lately (Mostly BYONDers who have been around for a while) have been coming in and then saying, "Lode Wars 2?", "Lode Wars Clone?", and so on. As I have said before, during the development of the game and while thinking of the idea, I did not play Lode Wars ever. If you do not believe me then that is fine, it does not hurt me or you.
On the second day I hosted my game Darke Saber got someone to host Lode Wars to show me how my game is similar to it. So that was the first time I played Lode Wars. It is annoying that I have to explain to these people everytime one of them log in that I did not base my game off of Lode Wars. You would think that these BYONDers would be a little more mature and try to support a up and coming game. If you take time and think about it, every shooter is the same, you either capture some flag/base/enemy or (team)Death Match, but you don't see people going into those games to complaining.
It just shows how some of the BYOND community is, most of them complain about rips and then if someone tries to create a game they then bash on it. They really have too much time on there hands which is kind of sad. I have a few words for you, if you do not like my game then please leave, I careless if no one joins this game. I created the game how I wanted it to be and I will keep on doing this, I am not going to change parts of the game just because it is similar to another. As shooters are in the Action Shooter genre, mine is in the Action Mining genre.
In my previous (mostly non released but hosted) games I always tried to create a game exactly how people would want it, if someone told me to add a Rocket launcher then I would have added it, but I soon came to reliase that it lead to the downfall of every previous game I have every created. I would lose motivation as it is not the game I wanted it to be. As I have said before and I will say it again, if you do not like my game then leave and play another. Anyways, thanks to everyone who have supported the game, especially Flame Guardian.

I'd hate booting someone over something opinionated but if it keeps up with the same people over and over I guess I may.
|
I would of been supporting you, and so would alot more people. But we dont have 4.0 =(
I believe your game is clearly not a rip or in any way trying to steal from another game. Games may be similar, but its obvious that you created it as your own. |
My advice is to always make things for yourselves, not others, whether it be stories, books, music, games, etc.
|
If it's any consolation, most of their games are probably verrry similar to other games out there, too (whether they meant it or not). It just kind of happens, regardless of whether you've seen the other one. "There is nothing new under the sun," as I said once.
Don't take it too hard and make a good game of it. It's the best revenge. (Oh and, for what it's worth, I'm stealing the living hell out of Civilization.) |

(Oh and, for what it's worth, I'm stealing the living hell out of Civilization.) You're making a Civ Game? :D Anyway, Calus... This is why I told you to make Blubomb different. I knew this was going to happen. Find some interesting and fun gameplay mechanic to set this game aside from Lode Wars. I would help, but I can't think of any myself. >_> Maybe you can come up with one more easily than I can because it's your game. I dunno. <_< |
You're taking things the wrong way it seems. When people say Lode Wars 2.0, that's not a bad thing. That's like a new version, or a better Lode Wars. I would take Lode Wars clone like them saying "This is a rip" however.
Don't take people comparing your game to Lode Wars as a bad thing, take it is a compliment. Lode Wars was popular, and if BluBomb is getting that much recognition at this early in development, just think about what it will be like months from now. |
Someone told me you were making a Bomberman game. This sounds more like Mine Bombers.
|
Yeah, I forgot who said that. I believe that they just looked at the name and assumed that it has something to do with bombing.
Popisfizzy, that is what I am currently doing, but it just gets kind of annoying and repetitive when someone who hasn't or may have already played in the game and says something about Lode Wars. TheMonkeyDidIt, I hope when 4.0 comes out that I can get some mature, newer, BYOND players to play this game. But that would be great to have revenge. Darke Saber, I am also adding in several modes such as rescue the hostage (which should be in today). Mikau, someone, that I am not going to name, said something like, "Lode Wars 2". Then pretty much without playing the game said that it must be crap. Though it was kind of funny because when I looked at the games they have created, they created a poorly made fangame of another BYOND game (Non Anime). All I said to them is that it is opinion and so far most people have liked the game. Drakiel, thanks, hopefully the public release of 4.0 will be soon. |
Calus, for all the people that come in and say that this is a just a copy of Lode Wars, they’re clearly mistaken. If I went to a beta shooter game and played it, than seen another beta shooter game with the same weapons I would not say HAHA YOU COPIED OFF GWARS 2.
Those people must not understand that you are having a beta test, the game is in the same genre as Lode-Wars, but it is not exactly like it, and it might change in a phew ways. For every Naruto game people don’t say that others are copying their ideas, same with shooters like you said. Just because it is in the same genre does not mean you’re copying. And like Dark Campaigner said, just boot them. It’s not worth listening to people discriminate your game. |
Calus don't listen to what other people say, I will always play your games just like you did with me when I first joined BYOND :).

At least someone's watching. I went so far as to post about Crass Grave directly in the Lode Wars forum and got no response. (Although, I'd probably have better luck finding testers with the new guild system now.)
As others have said, there are some people on BYOND who don't understand the difference between a rip and a game in the same genre. Granted, I'm still a Doodle over Paint fan. ;) |
Acwraith: I have never heard of Crass Grave before but from what I have seen on the hub, it seems very interesting. Maybe one day you could host it for a while. But you are right about the, "At least someone's watching". I've had many games where no one has came in, so I know how you feel.
Thanks Revalations and Flame Guardian. |
reloading...
You unequipped as40. You are already holding a big weapon. ...reloaded A bug on infected cell I stumbled upon. |
I remember the first day I hosted Test Action Game, the game which would later become Peregrine City. One player logged into the game and, after playing a little while, asked a ton of questions about it. When I resumed development the next day, I found that he had cloned EVERYTHING that was currently visible in the game, using single tile (Peregrine City was multitile from the begining) graphics, and had named it "Town" (if I remember correctly).
This was my very first experience with BYOND, so I actually logged in and tried to help him out. For the next week, people kept logging in and commenting "This is a Town rip!" and then logging out. Within a matter of days I had added so many features that the games no longer resembled each other. In the meantime, he had handed out GM to his friends, and added tons of really odd GM powers. When all of the players left, he made "Town 2", which I never had the chance to play, and went under soon afterward. I guess the moral is that continuing development is really the best way to separate the two in people's minds. Soon, people will be saying "You don't know what Lode Wars was? It was kinda like Blubomb...". |
Damn straight! I'd just start booting them >:(
