The way I've set up my roleplaying maps, they are 2200 by 1600 pixels at 200 dpi, meaning 11 inches by 8 inches with 0.5 inches of slack space horizontally and vertically on any given sheet of 81/2" × 111/2" letter paper (alternately, they are 203.2 mm by 279.4 mm with 12.7 mm of horizontal and vertical slack space).

However, no matter what I do, I can't configure my printer to actually print on any sheet of paper without cutting off the image, even though there is absolutely no need to within the margins given. I believe the blame rests solely in the fact that I can't convince my printer specifically to print at 200 dpi. I can choose from "High Speed", "Normal", or "High Quality", and that's it.

What really cheesed me off is when I tried to print in Paint and the printer ran the paper through itself without even printing on it at all. The print job was deemed a success. It took three police officers to keep me from picking up the printer and throwing it at Gordon Campbell. Actually, that last part is a lie, but it was still infuriating.
Heh. That reminds me of what I had to go through to get a printer to print in black & white once it ran out of colour. Plenty of black, but since it saw the colour was empty, it refused to print at all.
Well part of the problem could be that paper is 8.5"X11" not 11.5

Also some printers have to have more than a .5" margin. I know mine is like .25 on the top and sides but something like .75 on the bottom.
D'oheth...
I managed to coax it to print in Paint (but not in The GIMP, which cut off part of the image), but I had to resort to scaling down the image because sure enough, my printer wasn't capable of 6.35 millimetre margins on any side except for its topmost side (the side which gets printed on first).

For whatever reason.
