I say video games do cause violence. For some odd reason, even though I'm an ordinarily non-violent person, Jack Thompson just makes me want to hurt Jack Thompson.
|
So you think because someone played GTA or another game of that type. they will beat the fuck out of some random person on the street?
|
It appears Jack Thompson causes more violence than violent video games, so let's just ban Jack Thompson! >_>

Check out Jack Thompson's problems with Kotaku, Penny Arcade, and Flowers for Jack. Shows how insane and hypocritical he truly is.
|
Eventually, with any luck, he'll be disbarred...
Until then, though, he's doing wonders to show how loony people really are who make claims like his... He's excellent P.R. for the gamer community! |
I wonder if he thinks that games like Halo 2 promote "racism"(Reds kill others who aren't like them, Blues kill others who aren't like them, etc etc), and Pokemon promotes slavery <_<
|
Or if games like Math Blaster promote children attempting to destroy math books and trying to jump off of tall buildings to "bump the correct answer".

Meh..i have a cousin who has autism..and hes not allowed on violent games because it makes him think there ok to do in real life so ha
|
Mental Deficiency is pretty obvious sign to not allow the person to play. I knew an autistic girl who got it in her head that the slightest exposure to sunlight can cause cancer, thus, she now wears rain coats and hats all day, every day.
The fact that Jack Thompson isn't targeting mentally disabled people but everyone, makes your comment slightly unreasonable in an argument. |
I will say that games cause violence. Daytona USA causes people to like Nascar when they normally wouldn't. Power Rangers caused kids to think that shouting "HIYAH" would make their punches really powerful. Since this is true, then it isn't so unusual to think that a game where you knock someone on the back of the head with a sap won't cause some impressionable little kid to do the same.
It's up to the parent to police what their kid sees. These kids are too young to know what's real and what's fantasy. There are exceptions, and if you think I'm wrong to label kids this way, then you are likely one of the exceptions. Games shouldn't be pulled from the shelves just on the basis of content. I know a few marines who wouldn't mind playing some Manhunt 2 on the Wii when there's no one to spar with. I know several army guys who frequent the local arcade for the Gun games as much as for Dance Dance Revolution. I myself like RPGs and Fighting games, beacuse I like sci-fi/fantasy and I like to spar. I also like firearms, which is why I'll be in line behind the army guys for Area 51. Games causing violent behavior is not the problem. It's allowing impressionable people to view this content that is the problem. Parents, stop blaming the media when you drop the kid in front of the TV or Game system with a violent game that you bought for them or allowed them to own. |
And yes, he is an idiot. Check out: http://www.vgcats.com/jack.php -> An email conversation between Jack Thomson and the author of VG Cats.
Also take note, Penny Arcade have declared war on him.
