Just to clear some things up as far as my game tastes go, I played Halo for single-player. I have yet to play a Halo deathmatch. I also have no real taste for playing games online with other people. I play single-player games almost exclusively.

Well, I didn't like Halo either way. You would probably love Resistance then. The single player is very good.
The PS3 also has Joust on the Playstation Network, which is just awesome. I mean, come on, Online Joust! They actually have some good titles under the PS1 classics for the PS3/PSP. They costs $9.99USD I think, so some people might not want to pay that for an old game like that. Also, classic Rampage(But I've yet to get it). But again, if I had the ability, I would return my PS3 and bank the money for another month or two. There are a lot of games that will be nice coming out, but not enough that I enjoy right now. Oh, if you like racing games, the F1 game is pretty good, and would probably keep and F1 fan completely happy for a long time. The GT HD game(Basically a tech demo) is great. I've probably spent almost as much time on it as pretty much all the other PS3 games I haven't mentioned combined. There are a good few crappy PS3 games. |
Actually the xbox will get grand theft auto at a much later time...but yeah...you'll get access to those good'ol ps1 and 2 games for ps3...People say you get what you pay for...I guess it just depends on how many games you have and how many you plan to buy...I'm not much for halo..it seems overrated to me...grand theft auto is ok...oblivions pretty good...its gonna be released for ps3 too..I'll probably get ps3 mainly because of devil may cry 4.

Grand Theft Auto IV is releasing simultaneously for PS3 and Xbox 360, according to the sources I'm aware of. Sony lost exclusivity of the title.
Oblivion on anything other than the PC is an affront to roleplaying games everywhere. If The Elder Scrolls suddenly stopped selling on consoles and actually got back into being a serious CRPG, I would have a euphoric spasm. The big problem here is that I can see a lot of the benefits of the Xbox 360, but I've always been loyal to Sony. It just seems as though they're making a hell of a lot of rock stupid moves, hoping that their momentum will carry them along (kinda like Apple's momentum kept it in business until it finally appealed to non-fans with the iPod). I pretty much am Solid Snake, as I'm wont to say, so not having access to MGS4 will hurt a bit. |
Tenchu Z for the XBOX 360 looks pretty awesome, I think it's exclusive. If you know someone with an XBOX checkout the trailers in the XBOX Live Marketplace.
Oblivion on anything other than the PC is an affront to roleplaying games everywhere. Oblivion on the 360 is pretty good but you're right. I'd rather wait until I have a computer powerful enough to run it than buy it on the 360. The idea that not only do you have to pay for mods but there's only a handful of them sucks. This is pretty much the reason I enjoy being able to use the controller on my PC as well. but I've always been loyal to Sony. While I wouldn't consider myself loyal to Sony I would have chosen Sony over Microsoft. The three factors that moved me into buying an XBOX 360 first were; -Established Game Library (although both systems will end up with an acceptable library by the end). -I played my friend's 360 and realized it wasn't actually bad. -Sony have been jerking everyone around with the PS3 for quite some time. When I eventually do buy one it's going to be quite painful for me to actually pay them for everything they've done with the PS3. 'Thanks for cramming Blu-Ray down my throat'. Oh, I also hate the difference in size between normal DVD and game cases and Blu-Ray cases. My GameCube, Wii, PS2 and 360 games all get along nicely, but when I get a PS3 I'm going to have to buy a whole new rack for the PS3 games. The fact it seems to be designed to take up all the room in your entertainment unit is also a little disturbing. One thing I'll say about both these consoles is that they feel to fragile. It's really annoying for a guy like me who tries to take really good care of his gadgets. I can barely look at my 360 without wondering if something I'm doing is damaging it. Every time I hear the disc moving I think 'oh crap, it sounds like it's scratching the disc'. I wouldn't dare take the console with me when I go somewhere. I don't use the 'turn console off when download completes' feature because I don't want to risk it staying on overnight and overheating. |

You generally can't just compare numbers to determine performance, and the page doesn't say exactly what factors were compared to come up with the 1.5 to 2 times. If you don't mind my asking, how exactly do numbers not act as a basis of comparison? In any case, compare the estimated technical specs of the Wii with the official technical specs of the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 and you can see that the Wii just isn't anywhere near powerful enough to run a game that tries to make full use of the powerful architecture of the other two systems. (Of course, I'm sure Sony and Microsoft are exaggerating the sizes of their respective phalluses, but I imagine it's still pretty powerful.) |

Jon88 wrote: Sorry. I could have been a lot clearer. You can't just compare a couple of numbers and state conclusively that something is "x" more powerful than something else. Probably the best example of this is comparing the clockspeed of competing AMD and Intel CPUs. The comparison is pretty useless, since they do different numbers of operations per clock. Maybe something has way more memory, but that memory is a lot slower. Or maybe one system is particularly speedy at transferring stuff around, and is designed to have fewer bottlenecks, so less memory isn't as big of an issue since data can be moved in and out of cache quickly. The only real way to compare diverse systems is with a series of well-designed benchmarks. And even then it's unlikely one could conclusively state system X is Y better than system Z. It's quite possible that different systems will hold the performance crown in different benchmarks. To use the CPU analogy again, either Intel or AMD might have better performance for floating point, but be lacking somewhere else. |
Besides all that, the Wii wouldn't allow GTA4 because it doesn't meld with Nintendo's morality or ethics, whatever those are.
And Manhunt 2 does? :o |
Resistance was really good, but not my cup of tea. The story was great, the graphics were pretty good(Being one of the first games for the PS3 they didn't really touch it's capability), and controls where great. The online play was fun and it had some really cool aspects to it. If you already own a PS3 and like FPSs single player GET IT. If you don't enjoy single player modes of FPSs or console shooters, don't bother.
As for the 360, I don't see much that appeals to me. I hear Crackdown is good, but the only "side missions" it has is collecting orbs and races. I'd love to have it for a week, but can't justify the price of a 360 for it alone. Gears of War is supposed to be really good, and is said to look awesome. Besides that, I haven't heard much good about it.
Soon, Lair and Ninja Gaiden Sigma are coming out for the PS3. Both will be great titles. I've played the demo for Ninja, and I was truly amazed at the graphics and controls. It is so fluid you wouldn't believe until you tried it. And "The Darkness" looks like it will be great, but I think it is for the PS3 and 360.
I would suggest not buying either for a few months. There are a lot of titles coming out over the next few months that could make the difference.
