**THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY**
BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration.
Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by this summer and it might go higher!!
Want gasoline prices to come down?
WELL THEN: We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work.
Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.09 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit
someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach
literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.
It's really simple to do!
Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION
PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.)
:-)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!
{{Acting together we can make a difference!}}
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. T
THIS CAN REALLY WORK."
Do people really fall for this? Since gas prices are determined by the oil companies themselves, not the gas stations, not buying gas from a certain gas station would only make the prices rise, wouldn't it?

No, it can't work. It never really does.

It would only work if people didn't buy gas for about a month. One day isn't going to change anything. How many people were actually going to buy gas that day anyways?
|
My ex girlfriend fell for it and I had a laugh. He he he :)
Also, gas stations aren't the ones getting rich off of it. How many businesses are they going to hurt because they can't stand to have their precious earth-destroying fossil fuel for a dollar cheaper? Stupid hippies. |
Sometimes I wonder why we have legs, because everyone knows walking for half an hour is so lame and unhealthy, etc etc
|
Logic dictates that if they don't buy gas on day A they are just going to need it more on day B. Meaning that an increase in prices would benefit the gas stations more after the mini strike.

I'm not using my feet for what takes an hour on wheels to get to school. Well, that is reasonable. But I live in a small town, but everyone refuses to walk. I live 5 minutes away from a outdoor mall. What does everyone around me do? Drive. |
I guess it's only reasonable in big cities where places are close together. When you live far out in ... nothing ... it's too far to walk anywhere.
|
hello? bikes? if its just around your town - a bike would be much faster considering you can take cuts and not have to deal with traffic.
|
I live in a small town to. So small, in fact, I have to have a car to do pretty much anything. Work is a 20 minute drive. The closest general store is 25 minutes away.
That being said. I did walk into the small town a good bit when I was a kid(Mostly to meet people.) I do get annoyed at people refusing to walk small distances. I have, however, been known to drive my car to the store at the end of the road for ice and soda. But my car is pretty fuel efficient, so I'm hardly tapping my tank in that. I get at least 30mpg. |
K, I'll ride my bike 46 miles to school tomorrow.
Better set my alarm to like 3:00AM. <_< |
When i didnt have my car, i use to skate/walk/bike everywere all the way across town. i kind of wish i was able to do that, but theres no time for it anymore. life is a rush.

Who knows what Bill might do? All that money he has can't save him now!</sarcasm> |
who the fuck said anything about walking? You can't walk anywhere in today's society. But that doesn't mean we need to use fossil fuels.

I've been walking everywhere, it's my favorite mode of transportation. However, I am NOT walking to the 15 minute by car 2 1/2 hour by foot walk to the main library branch again. Also, I was reading through it again, and I think one reason everyone is buying into it is because whoever wrote it says: "You may not know much about math, but I do. Trust me, I am a mathematician ;)" I feel insulted. |
In cities you actually have an incentive to walk since there's almost no parking and it's expensive to house a car.
I think I'm going to walk home from school after my last final this Friday. Of course, since I take the bus, it won't change anything. Good hour or two of exercise won't hurt (until Saturday) though, maybe more if I get lost :P When I first heard of people "boycotting" gas my respond was the same as Danial's: Buy less today, you'll need to buy more tomorrow. And although this plan actually has a chance of changing something, it won't be what they're expecting. And the way that guy types != Executive. |
