With the amazing developments in BYOND on the horizon here, I've been inspired enough to say that a sequel to Bomberman Arena will be worth the trouble. I should have some time this weekend to get started on some basic framework. (I intend to start again from scratch, considering that I have a variety of new tools at my disposal.) I had a playable level going in a few hours with the latest version of Bomberman Arena. From you folks at BYOND, I'd like to know what features you liked in BA, what you didn't like about it (that I have control over), and what you might want me to add.

Tom, I owe you lunch, around July 21st-24th.
1)More Features
2)A Decent Non-Lag Server
3)More, and less laggier maps.

And I'm there for ya, BA2!
More surprising sudden deaths. Meteors and walls get old after a while.

Oh, and more colors for customization.
I stopped playing once the custom icon thing or whatever was implimented. I couldn't play servers because they would lag like crazy. That's mainly what I didn't like, and just things that would make really good players really annoying to play with.

Most of the other stuff was a lot of fun.

Oh, and I don't know if it ever got implimented, but AI is nice to have when there is nobody to play with or you want to fill the arena when you only have like 1 other person to play with.
Eh the only real problem was the laggyness. But I think you should go back to the old way of unlocking, you know 20 straight wins with 4 players for the crown would be nice. 35 straight wins with atleast 5 players and you get excalibur. And lets have the old rank system back, so that when I say I was the first or second best player, people would believe me.
Yes, the old reward system was the best way to go.
One thing that was in Bomberman 64 that I thought was a great gameplay factor, was 3 dimensional environments. Bomberman 64 had spherical explosions though, which isn't exactly true to other bomberman games. Even though the traditional bomberman bomb explosions only go in the orthogonal directions, maybe you could expand that to make a tesseract shaped explosion of sorts to fit with the 3d environments.
3D Bomberman in BYOND? Uh, no. :-/

I agree with Kunark that the worst thing about Bomberman Arena was the lag, but I did like the amount of icon customisation you could do. I think the solution is to preload everything from an external HTTP server (using preload_rsc="http://blah/..."). That way you get the best of both worlds, and the game server doesn't have to handle the bandwidth load of the resource download. The only downside is the heftier download when you log in. I think it's worth it.
