Keywords: haven, wtf
From the log of the Haven Seed test session that I hosted back in 2003 or so:

Release dates:
(WSAY - Nyck: wat is this game about?)
(WSAY - Spuzzum: Well, I don't want to spoil the story, so I'll just name the genre -- it's a roleplaying-enforced game set in a dangerous fantasy world, replete with steam power for additional flavour.)
(WSAY - Nyck: cool. can u page me wen ur done with it?)
(WSAY - Spuzzum: Will you be alive then? ;-))

Precognition of things to come?
(WSAY - Spuzzum: Yeesh, I'm almost tempted to add a wemote. =P)

Strange sense of humour:
(WSAY - Hanns: Spuzzum, must I say the really, really, really odd quote?)
(WSAY - Spuzzum: B.C. Lumber, down 325.3 points?)
(WSAY - Spuzzum: (Of course, if it went down that far, then we'd be paying people to take our lumber.))
(WSAY - Hanns: Wait a minute! What was professor Utonium doing making little girls in the first place?! (You asked for it))
(WSAY - Spuzzum: So he grows his own food. Big deal.)
Haven Seed... session... EVIL!
lmfao, Arfenhouse.
If you're wondering what brought this up: I was looking over the existing Haven Seed code last night and thinking to myself that all of the work I was doing on Newtopia is rendered somewhat moot with Lexy's coming... so I was considering getting back into Haven development and actually work it -- plus I could use some of my Dwarf Fortress experience to enhance the work (though most of the systems in DF's Adventure Mode were already planned in one way or another).

I know Lexy doesn't see anything wrong with Newtopia (or at least she says she doesn't), but it still makes me feel guilty. I was making Newtopia to fill in the void for a community-based high-fantasy roleplaying game (animals are pretty high fantasy to me) to allow people to play something like Hedgerow Hall in spite of the disappearance of the genuine article. When Lexy came back, that need diminished; assuming Lexy puts her money where her typing fingers are and finishes it, Newtopia's raison d'être is not a very strong raison any more.

Once I finish my little concept dungeon crawl, I'm considering popping over to Haven and actually getting it playable (to the point of being able to move around and talk at the very least) before I host a demo.
nothing stops you (or her) from creating what you want. i would imagine that in time the both of you will create something played by many of the same people. and there's no reason why there could not be a convergence of both games, or themes. heck, i can't think of much reason at this point why Newtopia and HrH might not 'live side-by-side', so-to-speak.
I can: I just don't feel motivated to do it if it's not going to be unique. When Lexy was off in her private land, I wanted to play HrH... and making my own project, originally never intended to see the light of day, helped quell that urge. Now that she's working on a reincarnation, I want to play hers and couldn't really care less about Newtopia... I imagine I'm not the only one who feels that way. ;-)
i can understand that. right when i was getting off my butt to dig into DM programming and using my earlier Furcadia-killer-RPG-thingy-concept (with it's 20+pages of design notes), you start Newtopia, and then she brings back HrH! not fair! so before i get annoyed and start my development again, you two better get your butts in gear and toss out atleast a functional beta!

:p
Say, digi, have you gotten motivated for yours yet? I'm still in a funk as far as motivation for BYOND games is concerned, having gained a much stronger interest in programming in a high-level-but-not-as-high-level language like D...

i've been more motivated than usual on several fronts lately.

Alathon has been tinkering with a multi-server-management system that works quite well and covers the issues needed in my old MIRE (Multi-server Isometric Engine) idea, so i've been putting my two-cents of OOP experience into his project whenever we get together at the net-cafe he works at.

there appears to be an interest in teaching game-development again at the tech-school where i teach HTML/CSS/PHP, so i've pushed BYOND as an educational tool in that venue. with luck, Alathon and I may even team up to teach a class or two. i'll handle the theoretical and he can handle the practical.

in either case, my exposure to DM increases slowly but surely. i'd love to try and foster support and contribution to the development of a successful MORPG for BYOND based around several concepts of my own, but i fear it would fall upon the deaf ears of the talented again.
